  ["htmlcontent"] => string(3106) "<p>(Hannover, 21 June 2018) Thanks to the installation of the new compounding line from Hannover-based KraussMaffei Berstorff, Tecnaro GmbH succeeds in doubling its biocompound production capacity in the Ilsfeld-Auenstein facilities. The bioplastics specialist is thus well prepared for the ever increasing demand for tailored alternative plastics compounds and in a position to ensure cost-effective large-volume production.</p>
<p>Tecnaro specializes in technologies for industrial use of renewable raw materials in plastics processing. Since its foundation in 1998, the company has been committed to the production of biocompounds. Today, Tecnaro employs 30 staff members and supplies its products not only to customers around the globe, but to almost all branches of industry. While lignin-based compounds referred to as Arboform are used for loudspeakers, musical instruments, toys, design objects or urns, for instance, the optionally bio-degradable raw materials of the Arboblend series are applied for packagings, office supplies, household items, film and sheets as well as for other semi-finished products, to name but a few examples. There is also a great demand for the third Tecnaro product line based on filled compounds made from renewable raw materials suited for the production of household items, packagings, technical profiles and chairs.</p>
<p>Tecnaro produces these biocompounds on twin-screw extruders. "We started with second-hand machines, one of which was originally delivered by KraussMaffei Berstorff. This is one of the reasons why we opted again for a compounding line from Hannover," says Jürgen Pfitzer, Chief Executive Officer of Tecnaro GmbH. The recently installed new line is a ZE Basic 62 twin-screw extruder for a maximum output rate of 800 kg/h. This extruder will enable the compounding company to double its production capacity per year. "The possible scale-up of our formulations for the production of larger quantities of specific compounds on the new extruder is of decisive importance to us," adds Jürgen Pfitzer who is deeply convinced that – in about 100 years’ time – there will be hardly any fossil-based plastics and that the demand for biocompounds will therefore continue to constantly increase in the future. </p>
<h3>Specifically designed for standard applications</h3>
<p>The twin-screw extruders of the ZE Basic series are extremely versatile and suitable for about 80 % of all plasticizing, filling and reinforcing applications without requiring any major equipment modification. This is why the ZE Basic is the ideal solution for the wide Tecnaro product portfolio. The series comprises a total of four extruder sizes with diameters ranging between 42 and 77 mm and output rates of up to 3 metric tons/hour. Featuring an OD/ID diameter ratio of 1.55 and a 10.5 Nm/cm specific torque factor, the ZE Basic extruders are technically sophisticated systems. Just like the other KraussMaffei Berstorff twin-screw extruders, this series can be tailored to specific requirements in terms of processing section configuration and screw geometry.</p>"

More than 1,800 visitors at the Competence Forum in Munich experienced a veritable celebration of innovative machines and technologies on June 6 and 7. The occasion was the 180th anniversary, celebrated with the slogan of "Technology Pioneers – from Tradition to Innovation". The KraussMaffei Group is systematically expanding its digital excellence with new digital solutions and services.</p>
<p class="Lead" align="left">"The KraussMaffei Competence Forum was a great success. The broad spectrum of groundbreaking machines and technologies that we were able to show our customers at our in-house trade show made it a unique event indeed. It was very well received by the visitors," stated Dr. Frank Stieler, CEO of the KraussMaffei Group. More than 1,800 visitors came to the Competence Forum, among them a considerable number from abroad.</p>
<h3 class="Lead" align="left">An injection molding machine for each decade</h3>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">The visitors were impressed by a total of 25 machine presentations. In Injection Molding Machinery alone, there were 18 exhibits (about one machine per decade) that presented live applications within the clamping force range from 25 to 1600 t. Among these were numerous innovations such as the new PX 25 and PX 320, with which KraussMaffei is expanding its all-electric series by adding two clamping force sizes, one lower and one higher. The new PX 25 impressed visitors with its micro-injection molding of liquid silicone (LSR). A radial sealing ring was produced with an intricate undercut and a weight of only 0.15 grams. The new "big one" of the PX series, with a clamping force of 3,200 kN, was displayed together with the IMD SI DUO film feed, made by our partners at Leonhard Kurz. This enables the world's first independent positioning of two single-image designs, which not only increase output using multi-cavity molds, but also enhance production flexibility.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">Additional highlights of Injection Molding Machinery at the Competence Forum were the GX 650 with the new Speed Option, thermoplastic lightweight construction with Fiber-Form technology, ColorForm applications in piano black and new technologies for fiber glass direct feed or for direct compounding.</p>
<h3 class="Flieundblock" align="left">Reaction Process Machinery's own anniversary</h3>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">KraussMaffei's Reaction Process Machinery division not only celebrated the company's 180th anniversary at the Competence Forum, but also an anniversary of its own. Exactly 50 years ago, a special clamping unit with two rotation axes for processing polyurethane was brought onto the market for the first time. KraussMaffei has been steadfast in shaping and driving the development of Reaction Process Machinery forward globally. The visitors were able to see the highlights of the last 50 years on a timeline. The exhibit was accompanied by numerous live applications. The biggest visitor magnets included the new iPul pultrusion system, which produced the hollow chamber profile based on glass fibers and a polyurethane matrix and the PUR foaming system with the new multi-color mixing head. And this created foamed knee cushions in various colors. The visitors witnessed fiber-reinforced lightweight construction ready for large-scale production on the fully automated wetmolding system.</p>
<h3 class="Flieundblock" align="left">Live demonstration of groundbreaking technologies in extrusion technology</h3>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">Extrusion technology showed itself to be a real trendsetter using its live systems from the pipe and profile manufacturing sector. The visitors were thoroughly impressed by the TCP pilot line (Thermoplastic Composite Pipes). It impressively demonstrated the precise wrapping of a base pipe with fiberglass tapes for high-pressure applications in the oil and gas industry. In addition, the newly developed three-layer pipe head produced a three-layer pipe with a functional inner layer made from PA 12. Another visitor magnet was the profile extrusion line, which created a two-color lamp housing out of polycarbonate using the coextrusion process.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">Additional exhibits, such as the direct extrusion system or the recycling model, once again proved the innovative ability of extrusion technology.</p>
<h3 class="Flieundblock" align="left">Experiencing Plastics 4.0 live</h3>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">At numerous exhibits, the KraussMaffei Group presented its entire Plastics 4.0 product line and made the possibilities and advantages of Industry 4.0 in plastics processing come alive for the visitors. The presentation of the new MES system, MaXecution, and the live application of the DataXplorer on the GX 650 FiberForm system were highlights. With its microscopic view, it records up to 500 signals on the machine, including the organic sheet heat-up time. All injection molding machines were equipped with the intelligent APC plus (Adaptive Process Control) machine function, which provides extreme weight consistency of parts and the highest process reliability.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">In order to bring even more effectiveness into digital solutions and services, the KraussMaffei Group is starting the Digital Service Solutions business unit on July 1. It will deal with service and aftermarket and link classic and digital activities.</p>

Visitors can observe the manufacture of light covers made from polycarbonate on a profile line. In addition, a sheeting line will be displayed. The EdelweissCompounding system provides energy-efficient plastics recycling and high product quality.</p>
<h3>Light covers in the coextrusion process</h3>
<p>"Our customers can witness live how a lamp housing is made from polycarbonate at the coextrusion profile line," explains Matthias Sieverding, President of Extrusion Technology at the KraussMaffei Group. A combination of the single-screw extruder KME 60-30 D/P and KME 45-30 D/P produces a light cover that resembles the housing of fluorescent tubes. However, the profile is made of two sections; a colored floor and a translucent area for distributing light. In the line along with the die, a blade cutting unit for swarf-free cutting and a deposit tray as the upstream station for robot technology are integrated. This is displayed in an animation at the end of the line, along with the profile removal by a robot, visual inspection and forwarding to packaging. Production is completely integrated into the C6 control system. Only the LED elements and the end pieces, manufactured with KraussMaffei injection molding systems, have to be attached in a separate working step.<br />The live system is designed for an output of 35 kg/h with a speed of 1.5 m/min.</p>
<h3>System solution for cost-effective sheet extrusion</h3>
<p>"A completely built up sheet system shows our visitors the exemplary cost-effective and flexible manufacturing of PVC sheets," explains Sieverding. A wide variety of coextruded products can be created with cost-effective materials using the total system concept and utilized in the construction industry, container construction and even in advertising. The main extruder KMD 133-32/PL produces the foamed intermediate layer with an output of up to 1100 kg/h, while the coextruder KMD 75-26/PL produces the solid outer layer with an output of up to 240 kg/h. The flexible design allows the processor to modify a monoextrusion in just a few easy steps. "The twin-screw extruder KMD 164-32/PL features a very high output of up to 1400 kg/h and provides another exhibit of our comprehensive expertise in sheet extrusion," Sieverding concludes.</p>
<h3>Plastics recycling and compounding in a single step</h3>
<p>EdelweissCompounding system offers obvious advantages regarding energy efficiency as well as a quality finished product. In this concept, a first extruder processes the recyclate before a second extruder compounds it. By integrating the process into a tandem system, repeat heating of input materials is not necessary. As a result, this saves energy, and the reduced portion of shear energy during plasticizing benefits the material quality. The system can be seen at the Competence Forum as a display model recreated true-to-detail and through an augmented reality presentation for more detailed information.</p>"

As part of the Competence Forum on KraussMaffei's 180th anniversary, two technological highlights from pipe extrusion are front and center. With the TCP (Thermoplastic Composite Pipes) pilot line, KraussMaffei Berstorff is taking new strides in fiber composite technology and thus supports pre-qualifying customer-specific sample pipes meeting the pressure standards of the oil and gas industry. In addition, the newly developed tube die features a three-layer pipe with a functional inner layer made of PA 12. This is especially suited for transporting corrosive and abrasive media.</p>
<h3 class="zwischenheadline">One-of-a-kind service for pre-qualifying TCP sample pipes</h3>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">"With our pilot line, we support our customers with their standards regarding the design of fiber-reinforced pipes from a process technology standpoint," says Matt Sieverding, President of Extrusion Technology at the KraussMaffei Group. "In the pre-qualification of new developments, we offer a service that is one-of-a-kind in the world. This is a real benefit to our customers, as lengthy and time-consuming process steps are drastically shortened," says Sieverding. The base pipe can be produced on our in-house lines for manufacturing pipes, purchased on the market or provided by the customer. The tapes are then wrapped on the TCP pilot line. A reconfiguration of the line allows for subsequent sheathing with a protective layer.</p>
<h3 class="zwischenheadline">Maximum flexibility thanks to a three-level process</h3>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">"For manufacturing TCP pipes, we relied on a three-level process in our system concept. For the customer, this process ensures maximum flexibility in production. And this is combined with a minimum risk in the production process," says Sieverding. At the second stage of the process, the surface of the PE pipe on the winding system is heated with infrared. The tape is then attached at two successive winding stations. An infrared oven for each layer ensures the fusion of the inner pipe with the reinforcing layers, thus ensuring complete bonding. A corresponding guiding device ensures exact positioning and prevents potential tape overlapping. "The fiber-reinforced pipes are excellently suited for the challenging safety requirements and high pressure loads in the oil and gas industry," Sieverding says. In onshore use, the working pressure attains 150 bar at times. In offshore use, the pipe can be required to withstand a pressure stability of more than 500 bar.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">The system for live demonstration at the Competence Forum is designed for a pipe interior diameter range of 50.8 to 152.4 mm (2 to 6 inches) and a maximum permissible operating pressure up to 100 bar (1500 psi). It is currently intended for the use of PE pipes coated with glass-fiber reinforced PE tape. On the long run, however, multi-layer pipes, other fibers and engineering polymers will also be tested.</p>
<h3 class="zwischenheadline">Engineering polymers as a functional inner layer</h3>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">"As a complement to the composite pipes, we are taking groundbreaking steps in pipe extrusion by processing engineering polymers," Sieverding says. Integrated into a complete production line, the KM-3L RKW 250 F³ tube die produces a three-layer PE pipe with a functional inner layer made from polyamide (PA 12). "Our development team was successful in combining the various processing parameters of raw materials such as temperature or shrinkage in this innovative tube die design," says Sieverding happily. The combination of the materials was immediately obvious as PA is substantially more expensive than PE but offers very high chemical and abrasion resistance. For complete bonding, an additional bonding layer is required. Due to their high impact strength and abrasion resistance, pipes manufactured in this way are particularly well suited to corrosive and abrasive media such as those frequently used in the oil, gas and chemical industries.</p>
<p>The live system with the KME 75-36 B/R, KME 45-36 B/R and KME 30-25 D/C single-screw extruders is designed for the dimensional range of 50 to 282 mm and an output of 800 kg/h for PE, 30 kg/h for the bonding agent and 180 kg/h for the functional layer.</p>"

As compared to the previous ZE Performance series, the ZE-CN features 15 percent higher output rates and up to 20 percent more flexibility in terms of process applications.</p>
<p>"After its market launch at Chinaplas 2018, the new ZE-CN generation will replace the successful ZE Performance series," says Bengt Schmidt, Vice President at KraussMaffei Berstorff in China. "Through state-of-the-art technology, this innovative twin-screw extruder series has been further upgraded and adapted to higher productivity requirements of our Chinese customers."</p>
<h3 class="Subline">ZE-CN for enhanced productivity and uncompromising flexibility</h3>
<p>The new ZE-CN has a powerful drive train and screw elements and shafts made of special material have allowed the torque density to be increased to 12.0 Nm/cm³. As compared to the previous series, compounders achieve about 15 % higher output rates with torque-limited processes owing to the raised torque. In addition, the ZE-CN series scores with an extended range of 4 and 6D barrel housings to precisely tailor the processing section to specific customer requirements.  All barrel housings are characterized by precise temperature control. While cooling is based on cooling water injection, high-performance electric cartridge heaters are used for direct and rapid heating. The C-clamp flange system facilitates assembly and disassembly of the barrel housings and substantially reduces set-up times during barrel housing changes.</p>
<p>The standard equipment comprises the sturdy base frame designed to accommodate the temperature control units and the oil lubrication system. The state-of-the-art control software can be seamlessly integrated into the digital factory, ready for Industry 4.0. The on-board operating panel with display of all important extruder information saves time and provides enhanced ease of use.</p>
<p>The ZE-CN series is characterized by a constant level of excellent product quality, easy operation and uncompromising reliability. Its high productivity makes it a safe investment with a short payback period. It is aimed specifically at Chinese compounders with standard compounding applications.</p>

In keeping with the motto "From industrial beginnings to plastics machine engineering in the digital age," the focus will be on the pioneer spirit that the company has demonstrated again and again over its 180-year history. This pioneer spirit will be brought to life by a variety of operating machines, all of which satisfy the high standards of specific customers for machines and systems for increased efficiency and economic viability, as well as intelligent Industry 4.0 solutions.</p>
<p>In the coming years, therefore, the KraussMaffei Group will be strategically realigning itself. CEO Dr. Frank Stieler explains the opportunities that the new business models will create for KraussMaffei: "Services, digital services and new offers such as our leasing model will make the difference in the future. These concepts work for all series and applications in our portfolio. If we apply them to our entire product range, great opportunities will be opened up for us."</p>
<p class="Lead" align="left"><strong>Experience 18 injection molding machines and Plastics 4.0 in live operation</strong></p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">For Injection Molding Machinery, the Competence Forum is guided by the principle of "Processing intelligent materials with intelligent machines." "We will be using a total of 18 injection molding machines to give our customers a live demonstration of the expertise and engineering passion that KraussMaffei has for all sectors of the plastics industry. Among these machines, the new all-electric PX 25 for very small shot weights and the PX 320, which expands the application spectrum on the top end, will be making their world premieres. Our Plastics 4.0 modules provide our customers with cutting-edge solutions for digitizing and networking their production," explains Dr. Hans Ulrich Golz, President of the Injection Molding Machinery segment of the KraussMaffei Group. At the Competence Forum, a demonstration will be given of the MES system MaXecution, a reliable tool for planning and production monitoring. DataXplorer creates transparency down to the component level and BlueBoX makes it possible to monitor overall production in real time. On the machine level, the APC plus adaptive process control ensures consistent quality shot-for-shot.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">The GX 650 with the new speed option, an incredibly cost-effective solution for the large packaging market, is making its European debut at the Competence Forum. An additional GX 400 will be producing fittings made from polypropylene in a 10-cavity mold. Other highlights are the demolding process with an innovative link guide, the 6-axis robot with high-tech gripper and the integrated sprue disposal.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">An additional must-see at the Competence Forum is the processing of 3M hollow glass microspheres on the MX 1600-12000. This material allows precise cavities to be made in the compounds, reducing the density. This minimizes weight and offers a great deal of potential for lightweight automotive construction or for insulating properties in construction. The FlexFlow hot runner control from KraussMaffei's Partner, HRS Flow, has been integrated into the MC6 control system to ensure perfectly balanced cascade calibration. This results in components free of joint lines, which can then be painted or electroplated directly.<i>  </i></p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">Additional highlights at the Competence Forum include silicone processing (liquid and solid silicone), thermoplastic lightweight construction using FiberForm technology, ColorForm applications with Piano Black as well as direct compounding thanks to the new DCIM process.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left"><b>Netstal ELION for high-volume production</b></p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">In a cycle of about four seconds and with 32 cavities, a hybrid Netstal ELION 2200 produces milk bottle screw-cap closures with a diameter of 38 mm. Every hour, approximately 29,000 screw-cap closures are injection-molded from HDPE. Each one weights 2.8 grams. Output volumes this large have always required a great deal of attention be paid to quality assurance, increased efficiency and operability. In line with these principles and with the spirit of Industry 4.0, Netstal is teaming up with its system partner Intravis to demonstrate the integration of external peripheral data. In a continuous control loop, the machine control system receives up-to-date information on individual product characteristics from the Cap Watcher III visual inspection system. The information gained allows the injection molding machine to calibrate itself and continuously produce screw-cap closures while adhering to extremely strict tolerances.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left"><b>Reaction Process Machinery demonstrating technological leadership</b></p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">Technologically speaking, KraussMaffei is a leader in Reaction Process Machinery. "By innovating process technology developments, our engineers continue to make applications more sophisticated. At the Competence Forum, we will be giving numerous live demonstrations to show why we hold this leading position, as well as providing a glimpse into the future," explains Nicolas Beyl, President of the Reaction Process Machinery segment of the KraussMaffei Group. Along these lines, the new iPul pultrusion system will be producing a glassfiber-reinforced hollow chamber profile in live operation. Thanks to the new injection box, the system enables production speeds that are up to twice as fast. Also making its debut at the Competence Forum is the new fully automated wet molding system. In comparison to manual solutions, this system makes it possible to cut cycle times in half and increase process security. Visitors to the TechCenter will get the chance to see a live demonstration of polyurethane-based sheet component manufacturing on the turnkey system. Another highlight is the production of foamed knee cushions from polyurethane using the new MK 10/15-UVP-2K+4 multi-color mixing head. This head lets you change colors between shots. The colors are neatly separated, which means the user can skip the changeover time in real-life production. Time-consuming production interruptions and rinsing procedures are eliminated.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">Additional exhibits like the new electric I-panel mold carrier or the new optimized SCS mixing head for structural component spraying round out the extensive portfolio.</p>
<p class="zwischenheadline"><strong>Technological highlights from pipe and profile extrusion</strong></p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">KraussMaffei Berstorff is concentrating on intelligent solutions in fiber composite technology, as well as manufacturing pipes with engineering polymers. This allows visitors to witness a plastic pipe being wrapped on the TCP (Thermoplastic Composite Pipe) with fiberglass-reinforced UD tapes (on an identical polymer matrix) system in live operation. "By offering this pilot system, we hope to provide our customers with a long-term service that is the only one of its kind worldwide: manufacturing fiber-composite pipes according to custom application requirements for pre-classification," explains Matt Sieverding, President of Extrusion Technology for the KraussMaffei Group.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">The fiber-reinforced pipes are not subject to corrosion wear and are extremely suitable for high-pressure applications in the oil and gas industry in particular; depending on the model, they can also be designed for chemical and/or temperature-resistant applications.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">The newly developed KM-3L RKW 250 F³ multi-layer pipe head - integrated into a complete pipeline - offers a spectacular demonstration of the manufacturing process for three-layer pipes with a functional polyamide inner layer. These pipes are also suitable for applications in the oil and gas industry thanks to features such as impact strength and abrasion resistance.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">A profile coextrusion system is being used to manufacture polycarbonate light covers. This demonstration is a way for KraussMaffei Berstorff to prove its value as an expert partner that can provide economically attractive solutions for coextruded technical profiles which combine various<span style="text-decoration: line-through;"> </span>functional layers, such as transparent or non-transparent.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">Additional machines from pipe, direct and sheet extrusion, machines from recycling technology as well as a service point round out the wide range of exhibits.</p>

As compared to the previous ZE Performance series, the ZE-CN features 15 percent higher output rates and up to 20 percent more flexibility in process applications, boosting the performance of Chinese customers to new heights. The state-of-the-art control software can be seamlessly integrated into the digital factory, ready for Industry 4.0 (Internet of Things). All components are produced either directly by KraussMaffei Berstorff or by renowned Chinese and international suppliers in compliance with KraussMaffei Berstorff's specifications.</p>

  ["htmlcontent"] => string(3893) "<p class="Lead">(Munich, March 26, 2018) KraussMaffei Berstorff worked in close collaboration with Poloplast GmbH, a leading plastic pipe manufacturer and longtime customer of KraussMaffei Berstorff, to develop a special concept for manufacturing 5-layer PP-R pipes with fiberglass reinforcement. The system was successfully commissioned at the Poloplast's plant in Ebenhofen, Bavaria, in late November of last year. Poloplast has also received product approval and authorization to produce the pipes used for drinking water and air-conditioning systems (for the diameter range of 32–250 mm).</p>
<h3 class="zwischenheadline">Joint development of a "customized solution"</h3>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">"Throughout a challenging development process that involved various tests and a wide range of providers, KraussMaffei Berstorff was, in the end, the provider that impressed us the most" says David Zovkic, Head of Production at Poloplast. In addition to outstanding project management and excellent expertise in processing technology, the pipe head concept meets our high standards for material composition and quality" explains Zovkic. Both the material composition and the layered structure of the PP-R pipes are innovations. As a result, the authorization requirements are appropriately stringent. "We are pleased to have been able to work with KraussMaffei Berstorff on this development project and to have laid the foundation for producing very high-quality plastic pipes for use in drinking water and air-conditioning systems," Zovkic concludes.</p>
<h3 class="zwischenheadline">One-of-a-kind spiral distributor concept for special requirements regarding material and layer thickness</h3>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">Even though KraussMaffei Berstorff boasts a great deal of expertise in multi-layer systems, the project developed for Poloplast is still new and unique. "We overhauled the spiral distributor system design in order to meet the requirements for the individual layers at their thickness," explains Andreas Kessler, General Sales Manager for KraussMaffei Berstorff at the Munich location. The extruder/pipe head combination has been designed to save a lot of space.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">The KME 45-30 B/R main extruder, which features the KM-5L RKW 94-250 pipe head for producing the PP-R intermediate layer, is closely surrounded by four coextruders from the same series, arranged in a half-circle, as well as the KME 20-25 B/R coextruder for applying strips. This set-up lets the machine operator control and monitor production from a central position. In addition, the pipe head features energy-efficient IPC (Internal Pipe Cooling), which ensures precise heat balance for thick-walled pipes.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">The standout property of PP-R pipes with fiberglass reinforcement lies in their low degrees of elongation and bending. This gives them a stiffness that is many times higher, which in turn provides quite a few advantages when laying pipe. The pipes are very frequently installed so that they are exposed under suspended ceilings – especially in public buildings.</p>

<h3 class="Subline">Liquid Color Compounding Technology produced masterbatches with unique color precision</h3>
<p>The ZE 28 BluePower used in the NPE live demonstration with a length of 46 D is equipped with a liquid and solids metering system, so that color masterbatches can be produced of any type of starting material. Color masterbatches are usually based on mono-concentrates, which are produced on single-screw extruders in a separate process step, intermediately stored and then fed into the twin-screw extruder in a second step. With the liquid color compounding technology, the intermediate mono-concentrate production step is no longer required. The resulting color masterbatches stand out for unparalleled cost-effectiveness and unique color precision. As our twin-screw extruders are self-cleaning, changes from dark to bright colors can be made without any problems. KraussMaffei Berstorff offers customers adequate recipes stored in the proprietary Process Control ADVANCED system, which are automatically set for the complete line at the simple push of a button on the control panel. <p class="Lead"><strong>Record result for KraussMaffei in 2017 </strong></p>
<p class="Lead">In 2017, revenue for the KraussMaffei Group increased 8 percent to €1.37 billion. Growth in new orders, at 6 percent, was also solid. “We are very happy with our performance last year,” says Dr. Frank Stieler, CEO of the KraussMaffei Group.  “We succeeded in beating the record we achieved in 2016 for both revenue and new orders. Improved access to the Chinese market thanks to our owner ChemChina played an important part in this. Our products in the injection molding and reaction process technology segments in particular benefited greatly from growing Chinese demand. We intend to adapt our product series more to take account of regional requirements.”  </p>
<p class="Lead"><strong>Planned investment growth for 2018</strong></p>
<p class="Lead">The Group is expecting further growth in the coming years, driven mainly by global megatrends like digitalization and automation. In 2017, the Group benefited from demand for high-quality machines offering a high level of flexibility, networking and configuration.  To continue meeting this growing need for technical innovation and services in the future, the KraussMaffei Group intends to invest heavily in its machine fleet, IT infrastructure, and software during the current fiscal year. Capital investment of about €67 million is planned for 2018. This represents an increase of 81 percent compared to the previous year.</p>
<p class="Lead"><strong>Adapted strategy enables development of new digitalization-related business fields</strong></p>
<p class="Lead">In its 180<sup>th</sup> anniversary year, the KraussMaffei Group will define a new strategic focuswith its “Compass” project. “The basis will continue to be our position as a leader of technology,” says Stieler. “That will make it possible to develop new products and services for digital solutions and new business models in times of accelerated global technological change.”</p>

"Baosu is a specialist in PVC pipe extrusion that has concentrated on the development of special stretching technology over the course of many years," says Andreas Kessler, General Sales Manager at the Munich location.  KraussMaffei Berstorff has maintained a strong, long-term customer relationship with Baosu since the eighties. Among other developments, it will contribute its twin-screw extruder for U-PVC production based on the latest technology to this cooperation as a core component.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">"In order to respond more quickly and with more precision to customer demands regarding process engineering and material composition, Baosu Pipe Industry is planning to install a system—equipped with our twin-screw extruder—that will be used for demonstration purposes," explains Kessler.</p>

In this environment, KraussMaffei Berstorff can assert its strong market position with its sophisticated technologies and customer-specific plants, and further strengthen it with many projects in pipe and profile extrusion, as well as in pelletizing.</p>
<h3>Tehstroj to modernize its pipe production with a three-layer concept</h3>
<p>"In connection with the modernization of its production location in Kazan, Tehstroj, one of the leading Russian manufacturers of water and gas pipes made of HDPE, has upgraded its existing extrusion line for the manufacture of single-layer HDPE pipes with our three-layer pipe head concept," Andreas Kessler, General Sales Manager of KraussMaffei Berstorff at the Munich location, is pleased to say.</p>
<p>The extruder/pipe head combination consisting of two KME 38-30 B/R single-screw extruders and the KM-3L-RKW 74-400 pipe head – equipped with the IPC internal pipe cooling system – is a special design precisely tailored to customer requirements. Tehstroj is thus able to increase the output in the manufacture of two- and three-layer pipes made of HDPE or PE-RC (resistant to cracking) materials.</p>
<p>"In view of the tight market conditions, it is extremely important to upgrade our plants to the latest standards, and thus to increase our competitiveness. KraussMaffei Berstorff has many years of experience in customer-specific solution concepts; the system offered has therefore proved to be the most efficient for us," stresses Lenar Gilmutdinov, Commercial Manager at Tehstroj.</p>
<p>"The three-layer pipes made of polymer materials and PE-RC satisfy current market requirements, so we will always be able to satisfy our buyers," Gilmutdinov continued.<br />The plant will be taken into operation at the start of 2018.</p>
<h3>Polymer Compound, Moscow, to enter PVC pelletizing business</h3>
<p>In mid-2017, Polymer Compound, one of the leading manufacturers of premium-quality compounds for window seals, hoses, cables and special applications, put into operation a pelletizing system with the KMD 114-26 G-W twin-screw extruder.</p>
<p>"In selecting a suitable system, we attached special importance to the best machine quality in order to manufacture premium-quality products with a high output and great flexibility," explains Alexei Chizhmakov, Managing Director of Polymer Compound. "From several providers in Italy and Germany, after visiting the company we decided on KraussMaffei Berstorff as the strategic partner for our new project," emphasizes Chizhmakov.</p>
<p>Polymer Compound now wants to use its many years of experience in development in this field in the production of hard and soft PVS pellets for seals and window profiles and white goods.</p>
<h3>Production expansion in manufacture of window profiles</h3>
<p>The company Akfa in Uzbekistan, a long-term customer of KraussMaffei Berstorff, is expanding its window profile production. For its new factory in Navoi, it has placed a large order for a total of ten twin-screw extruders of the XS series. The plants will be put into operation in mid-2018.</p>
<p>Art Plast, with its headquarters in Tashkent, is also expanding its production, and has invested in three KMD 90-32/P profile extruders from KraussMaffei Berstorff. From spring 2018, window profiles will be produced there mainly for the domestic market.</p>"

The Chinese company China National Chemical Corporation (ChemChina) is seeking to list its subsidiary KraussMaffei, a world leading supplier of machinery and systems for producing and processing plastics and rubber, on a stock exchange in China. To this end, KraussMaffei is to be brought into the Qingdao Tianhua Institute of Chemistry Engineering Co. Ltd, which is listed on the Shanghai stock exchange and a subsidiary of ChemChina, by way of injecting its equity interest into an existing listed company under ChemChina. In addition, it is planned to integrate amongst others three sites for the production of tires and rubber facilities from ChemChina into the listed entity. The transaction is subject to approvals by relevant bodies and regulators. "KraussMaffei's business would make up about 85 percent of the listed company", said Frank Stieler, CEO of KraussMaffei. KraussMaffei would continue to expand the international business from Germany as well as drive the Chinese business locally. Through the planned access to the Chinese capital market, KraussMaffei will be able to accelerate its growth in the mid-term. The company already increased its revenue for fiscal 2016 by 5 percent to 1.27 billion Euros and is heading to cross the mark of 1.3 billion Euros in 2017. Since April 2016 KraussMaffei is under majority ownership of the leading Chinese chemicals company ChemChina.</p>
<h3>Growth to be accelerated</h3>
<p>The planned transaction is the next step in the development of KraussMaffei. In 2016 the company solidified its leading technological market position in the plastics and rubber industries and with the change in ownership laid the foundation to enhance its profitable growth. “Through the planned transaction we are receiving access to the capital market. Through new financial resources we have the opportunity to continue to develop our company and accelerate our planned growth”, said Frank Stieler, CEO of KraussMaffei. In the current fiscal year 350 new jobs are expected to be created. In August 2017 KraussMaffei globally already exceeded the 5,000-employee mark.</p>
<h3>Employee representatives and IG Metall welcome KraussMaffei’s next step</h3>
<p>The company headquarters of KraussMaffei remain in Munich, Germany. The German codetermination rights, the legal form of the company as well as employee and union agreements remain unchanged. The employee representatives and IG Metall therefore welcome KraussMaffei’s next step. “The further improved access to the Chinese market will continue to generate growth through which existing jobs in Germany and Europe will be secured”, said Peter Krahl, Chairman of the works council of KraussMaffei. The IG Metall also has a positive view on these developments. “Under the new ownership KraussMaffei is on a clear course. Most recently the 5,000th employee was hired. ChemChina is a reliable partner”, said Horst Lischka, Company Representative of the IG Metall responsible for Munich and member of the Chairman’s Committee of the Supervisory Board of KraussMaffei.</p>
<h3>ChemChina continues to hold their stakes in KraussMaffei</h3>
<p>ChemChina remains actual controller of KraussMaffei and will continue to support the future growth of the company. “We have always believed in the growth potential of the company. Through a future listing on the Shanghai stock exchange, the perception of KraussMaffei will significantly increase in the Chinese market. Chinese investors appreciate German industrial workmanship as well as management competency,” said Jianxin Ren, Chairman of ChemChina. The Qingdao Tianhua Institute of Chemistry Engineering Co. Ltd. is currently listed on the Shanghai stock exchange under the ticker symbol 600579.SS. Trading of Qingdao Tianhua Institute of Chemistry Engineering Co. Ltd. shares has been halted for the past five months in accordance with Chinese regulation.</p>"

This innovative solution is designed for processing scrap material generated during extrusion processes in the rubber processing industry. The CRS 1000 stands out for maximum ease of operation and is suitable for a wide range of different materials.</p>
<p>"Most extrusion processes inevitably involve the production of a certain amount of recyclable scrap, i.e. residual material that remains in the extruder or in the extrusion head in the event of compound or extrusion tool changes. In order to maximize added value, tire producers strive to recycle this scrap material by returning it to the production process," says Joachim Brodmann, Key Account Manager at KraussMaffei Berstorff. "The CRS 1000 processes large-volume rubber residues removed from the flow channels as well as start-up scrap converting the material into sheets or strips with a thickness of 8 mm. This means that 100% of the residual material can be returned to the production process.</p>
<p class="Subline"><strong>Optimum recycling solution for large-volume scrap rubber</strong></p>
<p>The CRS 1000 is equipped with two (optionally) heated rolls and a hydraulically adjusted roll gap. It can be fed with residual material of various sizes up to a width of one meter. The generously dimensioned feeding unit with automatic intake gap is equipped with all required safety features to minimize the risk of personal injury.</p>
<p class="Subline"><strong>Compact plug-and-play solution</strong></p>
<p>Easy access substantially facilitates maintenance and cleaning operations. The simplified control of the complete line enables one-man operation, which gives easy machine handling and enhanced operational safety. In addition, the sturdy design and energy-efficient drive technology ensure cost-effective and high-performance system operation on a sustained basis.</p>
<p>As the CRS 1000 comes with the complete electrical equipment and control system, it is ready for start-up immediately upon installation. With a total weight of about eight metric tons, a volume of just under 4 m<sup>3</sup> and 5 m<sup>2</sup> footprint, the complete unit can be easily transported to any place of installation using industrial trucks.</p>
<p><b>Live demonstration</b></p>
<p>On 20 February 2018 at 5.30 p.m., interested visitors to the fair will be given the opportunity to experience a live demonstration of the CompoundRework system 1000 on the KraussMaffei Berstorff premises. They will be able to witness first-hand how easy it is to recycle production scrap and convert it into strips and sheets.</p>"
