The Chinese company China National Chemical Corporation (ChemChina) is seeking to list its subsidiary KraussMaffei, a world leading supplier of machinery and systems for producing and processing plastics and rubber, on a stock exchange in China. To this end, KraussMaffei is to be brought into the Qingdao Tianhua Institute of Chemistry Engineering Co. Ltd, which is listed on the Shanghai stock exchange and a subsidiary of ChemChina, by way of injecting its equity interest into an existing listed company under ChemChina. In addition, it is planned to integrate amongst others three sites for the production of tires and rubber facilities from ChemChina into the listed entity. The transaction is subject to approvals by relevant bodies and regulators. "KraussMaffei's business would make up about 85 percent of the listed company", said Frank Stieler, CEO of KraussMaffei. KraussMaffei would continue to expand the international business from Germany as well as drive the Chinese business locally. Through the planned access to the Chinese capital market, KraussMaffei will be able to accelerate its growth in the mid-term. The company already increased its revenue for fiscal 2016 by 5 percent to 1.27 billion Euros and is heading to cross the mark of 1.3 billion Euros in 2017. Since April 2016 KraussMaffei is under majority ownership of the leading Chinese chemicals company ChemChina.</p>
<h3>Growth to be accelerated</h3>
<p>The planned transaction is the next step in the development of KraussMaffei. In 2016 the company solidified its leading technological market position in the plastics and rubber industries and with the change in ownership laid the foundation to enhance its profitable growth. “Through the planned transaction we are receiving access to the capital market. Through new financial resources we have the opportunity to continue to develop our company and accelerate our planned growth”, said Frank Stieler, CEO of KraussMaffei. In the current fiscal year 350 new jobs are expected to be created. In August 2017 KraussMaffei globally already exceeded the 5,000-employee mark.</p>
<h3>Employee representatives and IG Metall welcome KraussMaffei’s next step</h3>
<p>The company headquarters of KraussMaffei remain in Munich, Germany. The German codetermination rights, the legal form of the company as well as employee and union agreements remain unchanged. The employee representatives and IG Metall therefore welcome KraussMaffei’s next step. “The further improved access to the Chinese market will continue to generate growth through which existing jobs in Germany and Europe will be secured”, said Peter Krahl, Chairman of the works council of KraussMaffei. The IG Metall also has a positive view on these developments. “Under the new ownership KraussMaffei is on a clear course. Most recently the 5,000th employee was hired. ChemChina is a reliable partner”, said Horst Lischka, Company Representative of the IG Metall responsible for Munich and member of the Chairman’s Committee of the Supervisory Board of KraussMaffei.</p>
<h3>ChemChina continues to hold their stakes in KraussMaffei</h3>
<p>ChemChina remains actual controller of KraussMaffei and will continue to support the future growth of the company. “We have always believed in the growth potential of the company. Through a future listing on the Shanghai stock exchange, the perception of KraussMaffei will significantly increase in the Chinese market. Chinese investors appreciate German industrial workmanship as well as management competency,” said Jianxin Ren, Chairman of ChemChina. The Qingdao Tianhua Institute of Chemistry Engineering Co. Ltd. is currently listed on the Shanghai stock exchange under the ticker symbol 600579.SS. Trading of Qingdao Tianhua Institute of Chemistry Engineering Co. Ltd. shares has been halted for the past five months in accordance with Chinese regulation.</p>"

This innovative solution is designed for processing scrap material generated during extrusion processes in the rubber processing industry. The CRS 1000 stands out for maximum ease of operation and is suitable for a wide range of different materials.</p>
<p>"Most extrusion processes inevitably involve the production of a certain amount of recyclable scrap, i.e. residual material that remains in the extruder or in the extrusion head in the event of compound or extrusion tool changes. In order to maximize added value, tire producers strive to recycle this scrap material by returning it to the production process," says Joachim Brodmann, Key Account Manager at KraussMaffei Berstorff. "The CRS 1000 processes large-volume rubber residues removed from the flow channels as well as start-up scrap converting the material into sheets or strips with a thickness of 8 mm. This means that 100% of the residual material can be returned to the production process.</p>
<p class="Subline"><strong>Optimum recycling solution for large-volume scrap rubber</strong></p>
<p>The CRS 1000 is equipped with two (optionally) heated rolls and a hydraulically adjusted roll gap. It can be fed with residual material of various sizes up to a width of one meter. The generously dimensioned feeding unit with automatic intake gap is equipped with all required safety features to minimize the risk of personal injury.</p>
<p class="Subline"><strong>Compact plug-and-play solution</strong></p>
<p>Easy access substantially facilitates maintenance and cleaning operations. The simplified control of the complete line enables one-man operation, which gives easy machine handling and enhanced operational safety. In addition, the sturdy design and energy-efficient drive technology ensure cost-effective and high-performance system operation on a sustained basis.</p>
<p>As the CRS 1000 comes with the complete electrical equipment and control system, it is ready for start-up immediately upon installation. With a total weight of about eight metric tons, a volume of just under 4 m<sup>3</sup> and 5 m<sup>2</sup> footprint, the complete unit can be easily transported to any place of installation using industrial trucks.</p>
<p><b>Live demonstration</b></p>
<p>On 20 February 2018 at 5.30 p.m., interested visitors to the fair will be given the opportunity to experience a live demonstration of the CompoundRework system 1000 on the KraussMaffei Berstorff premises. <p class="zwischenheadline"><strong>KraussMaffei: Premiere of the new all-electric PX series on the U.S. market</strong></p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">With a total of eight injection molding machines currently in production, the KraussMaffei Corporation bolsters its leading position in the North American market for premium quality injection molding machine and system solutions. "In the selected live applications on the new PX and on the CX and GX series by KraussMaffei, we demonstrate maximum productivity and flexibility in all-electric and hydraulic injection molding machines," says Paul Caprio, President of the KraussMaffei Corporation. With its new PX series, KraussMaffei sets new standards in all-electric injection molding machines, because it combines the advantages of an all-electric injection molding machine with maximum modularity in an unprecedented way. "Not only do our customers reap benefits from high diversity and flexibility in the configuration of the suitable machine, for example through our wide range of clamping unit and injection unit combinations, but also in production or in retrofitting", adds Caprio. All machines are equipped with the new enhanced APC plus function (Adaptive Process Control), which ensures maximum process reliability and with it a uniformly high component quality.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">On the side of reaction process machinery, KraussMaffei demonstrates its leading system expertise as well. Among the exhibits selected for live demonstration is the RimStar 40/16. The mixing and metering system for polyurethane (PUR) is strictly designed as a modular structure, thus offering maximum flexibility when selecting a suitable configuration. Further highlights include new mold carriers for instrument panel production, glass encapsulation (WinCap) and the production of steering wheels.</p>
<p class="Lead"><strong>Netstal: United States premiere of the ELIOS series and 128 pipette tips in 5.6 seconds</strong></p>
<p class="Lead" align="left">"With both of these top-class exhibits, we are attempting to demonstrate our cumulative systems expertise in fast-running high-precision injection molding applications for packaging and medical technology parts to our American customers", says Caprio. Thanks to its uncompromising design for thin-walled packaging, as well as its clamping unit—the fastest in the industry—the new ELIOS series by Netstal is ideally suited for use in the North American market. The hybrid injection unit equipped with two-valve technology delivers the necessary performance for extreme flow path / wall thickness ratios over 350:1. At KraussMaffei Corporation's TechCenter, interested visitors are able to experience the ELIOS 7500 in action: At a cycle time of 3.9 seconds, round lids weighing no more than 2.8 g are produced from polypropylene in a 24+24 stack mold by StackTeck. Meanwhile, an all-electric ELION 2800-870 produces 128 pipette tips every 5.6 seconds. "With this application, we are focused upon North American producers of disposable materials in medical technology. Apart from pipette tips, these also include petri dishes, blood vials, medicinal beakers and syringes", says Caprio. In the pharmaceutical sector, reputable customers trust in Netstal's expertise as they produce plastic components for insulin pens, lancing devices and sprays on all-electric machines of the ELION series. Using the MED-Kit, a cleanroom class up to ISO 5 can be reached.</p>
<p class="zwischenheadline"><strong>Expertise in extrusion technology: Compounding and recycling systems, PVC pipe production and pelletizing in a lab facility</strong></p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">"To the world of extruders, we demonstrate our expertise in pipe extrusion and compounding, technologies highly in demand on the American continent", says Matthias Sieverding, President of the Extrusion Technology Segment of KraussMaffei. Customers and interested parties get to experience several twin-screw extruders in continuous operation, such as the ZE 65 BluePower, with higher torque density and larger available volume for highly filled polypropylene, and the ZE 28 BluePower laboratory extruder, with a significantly expanded process and processing window for color masterbatch. For the recycling of plastic waste, we are exhibiting a ZE 40 UTXi, which produces premium-quality compounds from remnants of fibers and foils—all in just a single step. Additionally, a complete pipe system will produce PVC drainpipes with a dimension of 6" (168 mm) at SDR class 41. The core piece is the KMD 114-32/R twin-screw extruder with the KM-RK 23-250 pipe head, designed for an output of 2,200 lbs/hr (1,000 kg/h). Another highlight of the series is waterless wall thickness measurement.</p>

<p>The modular design of the pipehead KM-5L RKW 01-40 - consisting of axial, radial, and conical spirals – ensures maximum precision and exact layer thickness distribution at high line speeds and also offers huge flexibility in the processing of different PO materials, such as PE-RT, PE-X, or PB.</p>
<p>"We are also launching our flexible and modular concept on the Iberian market and meet the high market requirements for excellent end product quality and competitive production", adds Kessler. The exhibit is designed for throughputs of up to 300 kg/h (inner layer) for a dimension range between 8 mm and 40 mm.<br />The 5-layer pipes are characterized by excellent property patterns, such as resistance against stress cracks, scratch resistance, oxygen tightness, diffusion and temperature resistance, as well as insulation properties, which are especially interesting for panel and floor heating systems, as they are easy to lay and must have a long service life.</p>
<h3>Premium quality machine technology for material-saving pipe production</h3>
<p>"In the southern European market processors are currently focusing on pipes for non-pressure applications, such as drainage or sewer pipes", states Kessler. In order to reduce product costs, they are often extruded in multiple layers with a high filler content in the middle layer, which is foamed, from recyclate or post-consumer material. "For this application we offer producers feasible, customer-specific, and interesting solution concepts", explains Kessler. The optimized series of PVC multilayer pipeheads fulfills the high requirements of processing foamed and recycling PVC formulations. Technical attributes guarantee maximum throughput and precise layer thickness distribution. "With our systems the processor achieves a premium quality end product with maximum material cost savings".</p>
<p>"We also offer our direct extrusion concept for the production of high-filled, multilayer sewer pipes made from polypropylene for the southern European market", states Kessler.</p>
<p>In the one-step process the material components are compounded on corotating twin-screw extruders and then extruded on spiral distributor distributor pipeheads. A process which protects the material and also maximizes profits as high material costs, energy input, and handling are reduced. The pipes produced are not only used in classic sewage pipes, but also as "low-noise" domestic drainpipes in multistory buildings, as the mineral-filled middle layer has a sound-absorbing effect.</p>

The revised machine series with 32 L/D processing length, which was launched on the market for the first time for K 2016, is experiencing high demand when it comes to PVC pelletizing.</p>
<p class="Lead">In PO pelletizing the KraussMaffei Berstorff customers count on the reliability and performance of the 36D single-screw series.</p>
<p class="zwischenheadline"><strong>32D pelletizing extruder for all PVC formulations</strong></p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">"We have systematically adapted the pelletizing machines to current market requirements with respect to output", explains Eric Sanson, Product Manager for profiles and pelletizing at KraussMaffei Berstorff. For instance, the 32D twin-screw extruders impress with an up to 20 percent higher output for hard and soft PVC. Another benefit of the optimized screw concept is the processing of a large range – also high-filled - or recycling materials. A clever pelletizing head concept with a high level of wear resistance also meets all challenges for the processing of very sensitive and highly corrosive materials such as C-PVC.</p>
<p class="zwischenheadline"><strong>New customer Tunisie Cables counts on flexibility</strong></p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">Tunisie Cables, one of the largest manufacturers of cables in Africa and headquartered in Tunis, has opted to use KraussMaffei Berstorff equipment to meet its special requirements. "We expect maximum flexibility in the production process along the entire value chain," stresses Mr. Fakhreddine Bousnina, Purchasing Manager of Tunisie Cables. "We granulate our material using flexible PVC formulations for the different applications in cable manufacturing, such as the insulating layers, sheathing and also filling material," explains Bousnina. "The parallel twin-screw extruders of the 32D series feature a screw concept and fulfill these exact requirements for an extremely flexible application," adds Eric Sanson.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">The integrated plant, featuring the KMD 133-32/G-W as its centerpiece, will go into operation at the Grombalia production site at the end of the year.</p>
<p class="zwischenheadline"><strong>Loyal processor Fortlev places follow-up order</strong></p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">Fortlev, Brazil's largest producer of plastic tank and cistern systems, invests again in pelletizing systems for MDPE. With the current order for two KME 150-36 B, the Brazilian company (headquarters in Espirito Santo) will shortly be manufacturing pellets on a total of seven KraussMaffei Berstorff 36D single-screw extruders, then micronizes them and uses them in the rotomolding process for the production of water tanks. "Besides the high performance of the extruders, Fortlev also appreciates the flexibility and stable throughput", reports Eric Sanson. The output of the KME 150-36 B is 1800 – 2000 kg/h and the output of the KMD 125-36 B is 1300 – 1500 kg/h.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">The order also includes a complete line for PVC pelletizing. Formulations are pelletized for PVC projects on the machine, like on the two existing systems.</p>
<p class="zwischenheadline"><strong>Lab facilities for the development of formulations</strong></p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">The small twin-screw extruder KMD 35-26/L, the heart of a lab plant, completes the product range of the system provider KraussMaffei Berstorff in pelletizing. Small and compact, however with a powerful transmission and a separate C6 control, it offers every raw material producer, as well as processor, undreamt-of savings. Formulations can be mixed and optimized in small quantities, before large quantities of material are used in a production machine. In production facilities lab extruders are also often used for the quality control of raw materials and formulations.</p>"

Hannover-based KraussMaffei Berstorff now offers housing liners made of a new material for their ZE BluePower twin-screw extruder series. The reasonably priced new liners provide excellent wear resistance.</p>
<h3>Wear protection gains increasing importance for compounding companies</h3>
<p>Higher demands on plastics products in terms of performance, environmental compatibility and price bear a decisive influence on the compounds they are made from. More and more of these compounds are fiber-reinforced, contain special additives like flame retardants, or they are provided with high shares of fillers and reclaimed material to reduce costs. This in turn has effects on the processing machinery, so that wear protection is an issue of ever increasing importance for compounding companies. "We have addressed this problem and examined a large variety of metal materials available on the market. This is how we have found the perfect complement to our portfolio of materials," says Andreas Madle, process engineer in the plastics development division at KraussMaffei Berstorff.</p>
<h3>New powder material with outstanding properties</h3>
<p>The new 72HA material – an iron-based powder-metallurgical alloy with high shares of carbon and chrome – is manufactured using the HIP method. The chemical composition of this material ensures excellent wear protection against abrasion and corrosion and facilitates mechanical processing. "This is why the new material offers optimum wear protection when it comes to applications with abrasive and corrosive stress, plus an extremely attractive price compared to the high-performance materials used so far," explains Andreas Madle. The liners made of 72HA material are through-hardened. "We have already manufactured the first liners made of 72HA for an extruder of the ZE BluePower series and tested them in practical use – with excellent results."</p>
<h3>Oval liners provide optimized arrangement of the cooling and cartridge heater bores</h3>
<p>The liners of the ZE BluePower series feature a particular elliptical shape. These oval liners are the unique selling point of the state-of-the-art ZE BluePower series that convinces by a large free volume at high torques. The slim liner shape enables an optimized arrangement of the cooling and cartridge heater bores and thus highly efficient temperature control of the housing elements. In addition, the special geometry of the oval liners prevents liner deformation in the intermeshing zone. This improves the heat transfer from the external housing to the liner. A special contact collar ensures correct axial positioning of the liner inside the housing. For this reason, no leakage occurs at the housing connections of KraussMaffei Berstorff liner housings, which could be caused by different thermal expansion of liner and housing when the liners are not axially secured.</p>
<p>"With the new metallic material, the complex geometry of the completely through-hardened liners can be produced without any problem. We are convinced that this is a unique and uncompromising alternative when it comes to wear protection," says Andreas Madle.</p>"

<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">That's efficiency: People visiting the Open House at the KraussMaffei Group Mexico could get to know the whole repertoire of plastics processing in just one day: From injection molding to reaction process machinery and extrusion. 200 guests took up the invitation, and Klaus Jell, General Manager of the KraussMaffei Group Mexico, summarizes the event with great enthusiasm: "The day was a resounding success. Our customers found the mix of live demonstrations and specialist presentations to be very valuable, and we could sense their positive and motivating mood."</p>
<p class="zwischenheadline">At present there is great demand for machines on the Mexican market, in particular in the areas of packaging, agriculture, automotive and construction. The three segments of Injection Molding, Reaction Process Machinery and Extrusion Technology in the KraussMaffei Group therefore showcased technologies and developments that provide the customer with solutions precisely in these areas – of course, with a little local color. Reaction Process Machinery thus demonstrated its RimStar Compact metering machine using the manufacture of small tequila barrels, and presented the new training program in Querétaro and Monterey. <p class="zwischenheadline"><strong>First appearance for the PX</strong></p>
<p>In the Injection Molding area, the visitors experienced lots of technology for precision and manufacturing efficiency. The all-electric PX series from KraussMaffei celebrated its premiere in Mexico and immediately met with great interest on account of its flexibility and modular design. For projects with complex surface design, the dynamic mold heating of the cooperation partner Roctool offered interesting perspectives, because this process can achieve exciting effects and seamless surface aesthetics. On an ELION 2200-1000, a classical Netstal application was demonstrated with cycle times of 4.5 seconds: Circular lids with a weight of 6.6 g of the material PRO-FAX SL872NW.The four-cavity mold was provided by the partner Stackteck. The demand for such projects with extremely short cycle times is currently growing strongly in Mexico, so the In Mold Compression-Technologie pursued by Netstal is also attractive. The new LRX small linear robot took over the time-saving handling.</p>
<p class="zwischenheadline">Beside the many impressions for the mind, food and refreshments were not in short supply. While the guests enjoyed the Mexican/Bavarian catering, many interesting discussions took place, and Klaus Jell looks to the future with optimism: "I am very confident. <p><strong>Live demonstration of innovative recycling technology</strong></p>
<p>"For recycling specialists, compounding companies and university representatives, this event offered an ideal opportunity to participate in a live demonstration of premium-quality plastics recycling," reports Ralf J. Dahl, Head of the Twin-Screw Extruder Division at KraussMaffei Berstorff. "Customers and other interested guests used this unique platform for in-depth discussions with experts and industry colleagues and took a closer look at the EREMA/KraussMaffei Berstorff production solution."</p>
<p><strong>World premiere: EdelweissCompounding line with EREMA recycling extruder</strong></p>
<p>The EdelweissCompounding line with the EREMA recycling extruder designed for reprocessing film, fibers and mats was the focal point of the TecDay. During the event, post-industrial PP film scraps with different degrees of contamination were converted into a PP compound with a 30 per cent talc share in a 2-stage extrusion process. The line is rated for filler contents of up to 80 per cent and a throughput range of up to 1,000 kg/h.</p>
<p>The recycling/compounding line comprises an EREMA recycling extruder (COEREMA<sup>®</sup> 1108T), melt filter and melt pump, a KraussMaffei Berstorff ZE 60 R UTXi twin-screw extruder and a water-cooled die face pelletizing system.</p>

<p>"After the TecDay, the line can be used by EREMA and KraussMaffei Berstorff customers for tests performed under real production conditions," says Ralf Dahl. <h3 class="zwischenheadline">Conical model for small diameter and double-strand production</h3>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">"With the introduction of the conical model, we will be able to professionally handle the requirements of pipe producers for a robust machine with small diameter ranges of up to 63 mm as well as for twin-strand systems," emphasizes Kaijun Fan, Vice President of Extrusion in China. The model – to be seen for the first time at the Chinaplas in Guangzhou – is designed for the performance range of 130 to 360 kg/h and precisely matched to the local Chinese U-PVC formulation. It is the ideal concept for the lower performance range because traditionally more conical machine designs are used here. "We therefore cover the entire spectrum of pipe processing, as the models of the 36D Performance series are still available for the high output range in the U-PVC sector, and two specialized machines, the KMD 60 KK and the KMD 90-26, are available for C-PVC processing," says Fan.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">Apart from the space-saving design, the conical extruder features an outstanding high-performance gearbox and a high level of flexibility and process stability from a process technology standpoint. The C6 control system with its many monitoring and control functions is the key to an optimal production process.</p>
<h3 class="zwischenheadline">Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) Plus for increased quality: premium quality components made in Germany – and installed locally</h3>

Its performance profile has been specially adapted to this market. A compounder from this series has been in use at Zhejiang Xinli New Material Co. Ltd. in Wenzhou for a few months – with complete customer satisfaction.</p>
<h3>ZE Performance co-ordinated on the needs of the mid-high-range market</h3>
<p>"Since we began using the new compounder, weʼve seen significant increases in our cost efficiency and ability to stay competitive in the cutthroat market for polyamide compounds," states Ye Yaoting at Zhejiang Xinli. The compounder is a twin-screw extruder of the new ZE Performance series from KraussMaffei Berstorff. Its performance profile is adapted precisely to the needs of the mid- to high-range market.</p>
<p>On a total of 25 lines with a yearly capacity of 20,000 tons, Xinli produces flameproof and reinforced PA6 and PA66 compounds for the automotive and electrical industries. Customers in these industries have very high standards. High product quality is absolutely essential for any plastics processor that hopes to stand out from the competition and earn the business of customers like Chint, Tengen, Huanyu or Great Wall Motors.</p>
<p>Ye Yaoting says, "Thanks to the excellent, gentle mixing of the new extruder, the compounds that it produces have significantly better mechanical properties than comparable products, and there is also greater machine productivity".</p>
<h3>Wide range of applications</h3>
<p>Like all twin-screw extruders, the ZE Performance is equipped with process elements that were developed exclusively by KraussMaffei Berstorff using resources from renowned suppliers. In conjunction with the screw elements developed specially for the standard compounding tasks, the ZE Performance offers a wide application range for compound quality and productivity. The process unit has a modular design. This allows it to be adapted to various applications throughput quantities.</p>
<p>ZE Performance machines are available in sizes 52 and 62 for through puts of 300 to 1,200 kg/h. They cover the entire standard spectrum for compound manufacturing. Four housing sizes in various models with L/D ratios of 4, 8, 10 or 12 are available for optimum process adaptation. Cooling is by means of water injection, and heating by means of electric heating cartridges. The C-clamp flange system for quick and easy housing element replacement ensures short setup time.</p>

The company, which was founded just in 2014, based its decision in favor of the solutions from Munich on advantages in process technology, and success proves it right. Two identical complete systems have already been producing premium quality heating pipe systems with a diameter between 8 and 32 mm for several years and with great success. The recently ordered system will be commissioned by the end of this year.</p>
<h3>Turnkey overall concept with sophisticated pipe head technology</h3>
<p>"It was especially important to me to have a partner offering an integrative, customized concept—so to speak, a turnkey system enabling us to manufacture more than just me-too products," Enetec's managing director, Michael Frenzel, explains his decision in favor of KraussMaffei Berstorff. The mechanical engineering company was able to fulfill the requirements in such a way that the pipe manufacturer ordered its second line just nine months after the initial installation—and now has ordered its third.</p>
<p>The highlight of the systems is the KM 5L-RKW 01-40 5-layer pipe head, which is not only a novelty for KraussMaffei Berstorff but also unique within the industry. "We have succeeded in designing a pipe head that combines multiple spiral distributor principles. Using the pipe head, manufacturing multi-layered pipes with perfect layer thickness distribution becomes possible at high line speeds," boasts Andreas Kessler, General Sales Manager of KraussMaffei Berstorff at its Munich location. The inner layer is led over an axial spiral, while the layers of bonding material EVOH are distributed over three spiral distributors and a conical spiral has been selected for the outer layer. The main advantage of this design is the exact distribution of the layers, which allows for a significant reduction of the material costs in pipe production.</p>
<p>The pipe head is fed by six single-screw extruders, each of which is equipped with its own gravimetric material metering so that different layer thicknesses can be configured perfectly. In detail, these are the KME 45-36 B/R main extruder for the PE-RT inner layer and the KME 30-30 B coextruder for the PE-RT outer layer. Two further coextruders of the KME 30-25 D/C type each plasticize the raw material for the layers of bonding material, into which the EVOH oxygen barrier layer is embedded. For these, a KME 30-25 is installed as a piggyback on the main extruder. Finally, the sixth extruder, a KME 20-25 D/C, also installed as a piggyback solution on top of one of the coextruders, takes over appliance of the strips.</p>

<h3>Cutting-edge technology for unparalleled productivity</h3>
<p>Thanks to the finely tuned interaction with state-of-the-art rubber processing extruders, KraussMaffei Berstorff strip winding systems stand out for excellent productivity, optimized advance and coating control and maximum ease of operation. All the operator has to do is to enter the application-specific compound, length, diameter and thickness, that's it – the rest is done automatically. These strip winding systems are suited for processing a wide range of different compounds – from silicone, SBR, NBR, EPDM, NR, HNBR, FKM (F)VMQ up to highly-filled special compounds. They are designed for covering rolls for the most varied industrial applications. Rolls of any face length with a core diameter between 50 and 2,800 mm can be coated with rubber layers of 0.5 to 70 mm thickness in a single working cycle.</p>
<h3>Strip winding systems score with premium product quality</h3>
<p>"The rubber processing extruders used in combination with the forth strip winding system generation exhibit substantially improved feeding behavior and ensure pulsation-free extrusion even with the most challenging compounds. <p>"In South America, too, the trend is moving toward using premium-quality products in the construction industry and in the infrastructure area," reports Raul Alvarez, owner of Tubrica. The bundle of orders includes seven entire machines for producing pipes with polyolefin material such as HDPE and PP-R, but also lines for manufacturing innovative composite pipes, which are used in the high-pressure range in the oil and gas industry. <p>From the standpoint of overall equipment efficiency, KraussMaffei Berstorff is continuously optimizing its machines and systems so that it can always satisfy the demand for maximum system availability, perfect product quality and maximum performance. <h3>High-performance system for producing standard PVC pipes</h3>
<p>In addition to the PO systems, the order size includes multiple extruders for manufacturing corrugated PVC tubes, a few lines for manufacturing PVC pipes, as well as two double-strand systems for manufacturing U-PVC sewage pipes (for the diameter range from 63 to 160 mm). "The design of the double-strand lines features impressively low space requirements," Kessler explains. "With the combination of two KMD 108-36/R twin-screw extruders, we are offering the customer a custom solution that enables extremely space-saving, extremely high-performance and very energy-efficient production. It is an interesting solution when you need to produce standard pipes with large dimensions while also raising the profit margins somewhat," Kessler says.</p>
<p>The system, which could be seen at K 2016 before being delivered to the customer, proves that customized concepts can be used to reduce production costs and increase overall equipment efficiency for the long term.</p>

"The machine, which has been in operation as a single extruder for more than ten years, has been integrated into the new, efficient and high-performance twin-strand extrusion machine that produces coextruded window profiles with a high output of 700 – 800 kg/h," Stramm continues. The main extruder prepares the material with a higher proportion of recycled or filler content for the inner layer. The two coextruders (executed as a piggyback model) deliver the outer layer in the twin strand with performance of up to 200 kg/h per strand.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">With the implementation of the C6 control system, the machine is state-of-the-art in terms of control and monitoring. Reliable production is guaranteed, especially regarding extruders produced in cooperation and downstream units.</p>

Russian processors, in defiance of the continuing exchange rate fluctuations of the Russian ruble, are orienting their long-term strategies towards premium quality and investing in production plants for pioneering and complex end products.</p>
<h3>Premium-quality advertising panels with 32D twin-screw extruder</h3>
<p>The long-term customer Rosstar (with headquarters in Saint Petersburg) is continually investing in development projects. In the course of modernizing their production processes, they decided on another sheet extruder from KraussMaffei Berstorff to produce compact and foam sheets. "Our good experience with the 32D twin-screw extruder technology influenced our decision to buy, because it guarantees flexible production of PVC sheets in top product quality," stresses Alexey Karovetsky, Managing Director of Rosstar. "In addition, we benefit from our partner's excellent know-how in process technology. We have thus developed a unique selling proposition, replacing imports with first-class products manufactured locally," explains Karovetsky with pride. The KMD 133-23/PL twin-screw extruder was put into operation in Saint Petersburg in November 2016. Sheets of up to 2050mm in width and up to 12mm in thickness are now produced here.</p>
<h3>36D single-screw extruder technology for steel pipe coating</h3>
<p>SMIT-Yartsevo (with headquarters in Yartsevo), one of the largest PO processing companies for HDPE pipes, molded parts and accessories for pipelines, as well as for PUR-insulated pipes, is to continue its long-term cooperation with KraussMaffei Berstorff. With this new investment, the company is adding steel pipe coating technology to extend its product portfolio. The scope of delivery includes a coextrusion combination – consisting of two single-screw extruders of the 36D and 30D series, as well as two flat sheet dies. "With this highly efficient system, steel pipes are coated with an adhesive and a PE protective layer," explains Vadim Schwarz, Regional Sales Manager for Russia at KraussMaffei Berstorff. "Our long-term proven single-screw extruder technology ensures optimum melt quality with maximum production reliability and constant product quality, which precisely with this application is essential," says Schwarz. The anti-corrosive coating of steel pipes is necessary for laying underground pipelines as it protects against rusting and contamination, and also ensures easy pipe laying and a long service life. The system was successfully put into operation at the end of 2016.</p>
<h3>SLT Aqua starts production of premium-quality PP-R pipes</h3>
<p>SLT Aqua (with headquarters in Moscow), a true newcomer to pipe processing, focuses on the production of premium-quality drinking water and hot water pipes. Here too, perfect end product quality is the decisive factor for the selection of providers. "In laboratory tests, we paid particular attention to material destruction," explains Georgiy Gusev, Managing Director of SLT Aqua. "The sample pipes produced on KraussMaffei Berstorff machines showed the lowest level of material destruction, thus proving top pipe quality," stresses Mikhail Basilevsky, Deputy Technical Director. SLT Aqua produces single-layer PP-R drinking water pipes in the diameter range 20 -110 mm on one production line with the KME 60-36 B/R single-screw extruder and the KM-RKW 32-110 pipehead. On the second line, three-layer PP-R pipes - the middle layer being filled with glass fiber – are manufactured for use in heating pipe systems. Here, beside the two KME 45-36 B/R single-screw extruders, the KM-3L RKW 73-160 multi-layer pipe head is used. The systems were successfully put into operation in October 2016.</p>

  ["htmlcontent"] => string(7569) "<p>(Munich, October 19, 2016) KraussMaffei Berstorff is presenting its exhibits with a focus on Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) at the K 2016 trade show in Düsseldorf (October 19 to 26, 2016, Building 15, Booth B27/C24/C27/D24). The all-encompassing approach to cost-effective and efficient production, which combines the requirements for perfect performance, high product quality and maximum system availability, provides the processor with added value. KraussMaffei Berstorff presents this added value to its customers as a competitive advantage under the blanket term "OEE Plus." "We offer more than just machines and systems. We offer more than just hardware and software units. We give our customers the ability to compete," explains Peter Roos, President of the Extrusion Technology Segment of the KraussMaffei Group and Managing Director of KraussMaffei Berstorff.</p>
<h3>QuickSwitch technology for a boost to availability</h3>
<p>QuickSwitch is a top-of-the-line pipe extrusion technology from the standpoint of maximum system availability. This one-of-a-kind technology for changing dimensions automatically has been used successfully in several production operations for years and has been demonstrating the enormous advantages of economical PO pipe production. "At K 2016, we are presenting our maximum version for the 280 – 500 mm dimension range and offering customers even more flexibility and delivery availability through small batch sizes," says Roos.</p>
<h3>System expertise: Production of pipes with filled formulations and multifunctional layers, giving a boost to quality</h3>
<p>By releasing a series of pipe heads, KraussMaffei Berstorff definitively proves its pipe technology expertise, in both PO and PVC processing. "In production of multi-layered pipes in particular, the important factors are precision and cost-efficiency," states Roos. "Our pipe heads are designed to guarantee a uniform layer distribution, optimal adhesion of the layers as well as low specific weights for high mechanical stress," Roos continues. The following exhibits will be on display:<br />The KM-3L RK 42 pipe head for the flexible production of PVC multi-layer pipes. The KM-RK 20 S PVC pipe head – designed as a double compression model – covers the small diameter range of 12 – 63 mm. The prototype is being developed further to increase pipe quality and production reliability for the future use of various customer formulations worldwide. The KM-5L RKW 01-40 model produces five-layered PO pipes that are used particularly frequently during installation of floor and ceiling temperature control systems. All models provide the customer with a boost to competitiveness, as they achieve optimal finished product quality.</p>
<h3>Efficient PVC pipe production with high-performance extruders for a boost to performance</h3>
<p>The combination of two KMD 108-36 E2/R twin-screw extruders is oriented toward processors who mass-produce U-PVC pipes. The compactly designed system is designed for a throughput of 2000 kg/h – with very low space requirements. In combination with the KM-RK 23-250 pipe head, it provides a boost to output and thus clearly demonstrates the efforts of KraussMaffei Berstorff to achieve high overall equipment effectiveness.</p>
<h3>Profile extrusion with the KMD 73 K/P coextruder for a boost to cost-efficiency</h3>
<p>The trend towards increased use of recycled materials is unabated, even in the highly competitive profile market. "Therefore, we have been offering space-saving coextrusion models for many years that enable processors to use cost-effective formulations for the core, which is not visible," states Roos. The KMD 73 K/P exhibit is an addition to the conical twin-screw series in the upper output range. The extruder is installed on columns and stands out thanks to its space-saving design. It also has a swiveling metering unit and is highly versatile.</p>
<h3>The new ZE 28 BluePower laboratory extruder with a boost to availability</h3>
<p>Research and development is also becoming increasingly concerned with speed, productivity and efficiency in all dimensions. The new ZE 28 BluePower laboratory extruder takes these requirements into account and expands the spectrum of processing tasks considerably.</p>
<p>"With the 28-millimeter twin-screw extruder, KraussMaffei Berstorff is expanding the ZE BluePower machine series, introduced three years ago, to include smaller models," reports Roos. "It is suitable for more than just research and development tasks. It also features a significantly expanded process window for small batch production compared to the existing laboratory extruder," Roos adds. The new machine is of particular interest to compounding operations that are increasingly confronted with ever-greater product variety accompanied by ever-smaller batches.</p>
<p>The new BPC Touch machine control system supports Plastics 4.0<br />"K 2016 will see the launch of the new intuitive machine control system software," reports Roos. "The BPC Touch is one example of the Integrated Production area within Plastics 4.0. It allows the new control system to link the order and production systems. "It makes it possible to query order data, apply presetting data and initiate processes," says Roos. The control system is equipped with a remote maintenance interface for targeted and expanded services. This makes it possible to install other available interactive services retroactively.</p>
<p>The trade show will also mark the launch of the BPC Touch for the ZE BluePower, ZE UTX and ZE Basic twin-screw extruder series.</p>
<h3>The GE 90 rubber extruder with a straight extrusion die for a boost to quality</h3>
<p>Increased productivity with higher product quality and simultaneously lower raw material consumption are the requirements of the hose manufacturers for a straight extrusion die. The special features of the extrusion die exhibited at K 2016 are not immediately obvious. The classic configuration has the wall thicknesses in the front head area adjusted via a nozzle that moves axially. But the critical innovation of the new die is the redesigned nozzle holder with hydraulic mold-centering device.</p>
<h3>Innovative extrusion process for a boost to quality</h3>
<p>KraussMaffei Berstorff is presenting innovative extrusion systems for recycling plastics using the various concepts of cascade extrusion. This extrusion processes gives recyclers or compounders an ideal option for manufacturing high-quality recompounds from PE and PP waste, as well as from recycled materials from other polymers in one step and without intermediate steps.</p>
<h3>Demonstration of a perfectly coordinated compounding system for a boost to performance</h3>
<p>Specialty manufacturers are the primary target audience for the compounding system with a KraussMaffei Berstorff ZE 42 BluePower twin-screw extruder. The demonstration line at K 2016 shows the production of a high-intensity color masterbatch made of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE). The material leaves the system in the form of microgranulate with a diameter of 0.4 to 0.5 millimeters.</p>
<p>The components of the compounding system include ZE 42 BluePower, an Eprotec melt pump with downstream screen changer, an ECON underwater pelletizer and an ECON process water system with centrifugal dryer. The throughput for this application is about 70 kg/h. The system will be on display at the ECON GmbH trade show booth in Hall 9, Booth C55.</p>

<h3>Extremely precise</h3>
<p>The special features of the new hose die head are not immediately obvious. The classic configuration has the wall thicknesses in the front head area adjusted via a nozzle that moves axially. The die head attains maximum performance in conjunction with an X-ray measurement system. By implementing it, the user can replace the process of manually readjusting the head with an automated process. The system constantly measures the wall thickness, eccentricity, and outer diameter of the rubber hoses, then adjusts the hydraulic wall thickness centering device exactly to the hundredth of a millimeter by means of digital controllers.</p>
<p>The automatic radial centering significantly reduces the adjustment effort at startup and during production – in terms of both time and material consumption. The die head is available for hose diameters of 3 to 100 millimeters.</p>
<h3>Optimal quality with high production batches</h3>
<p>"The system is excellently suited for manufacturers who want to produce hoses with a uniform wall thickness reliably over a long period, cost-effectively, and with the highest quality," explains Peter Roos, President of the Extrusion Technology segment of the KraussMaffei Group and Managing Director of KraussMaffei Berstorff.</p>
<p>The system provides the hose manufacturer with substantial advantages in quality control as well as operation. Thanks to the continuous, automatic production monitoring, the manufacturer can substantially reduce the time required to adjust the system. This boosts system utilization and cuts personnel costs. Moreover, the reduced thickness tolerance of the wall thickness also brings noticeable material savings, since safety surcharges are largely obsolete. This means that considerable sums can be saved on material costs year after year with consistent quality. The investment in the system pays off in almost no time.</p>

(Munich, March 3, 2017) Tubrica, one of the largest pipe producers on the South American continent, with headquarters in Venezuela, invested in the expansion of its PO and PVC pipe production as part of a large-scale order from KraussMaffei Berstorff. The systems (a total of ten lines and two single extruders) are being successively put into operation at the locations in Barquisimeto and Valencia as well as Maracaibo (Venezuela) by the middle of 2017.
