  ["htmlcontent"] => string(3082) "<p>(Hannover, 21 March 2019) The new non-contact C-Check system is designed for in-line conductivity measurement of chimney strips directly after the extrusion process. It enables in-process detection of material defects and transmits a warning signal to the operator and the control system. Recipe-controlled positioning combined with automatic height adjustment of the test system ensures uncompromising flexibility and excellent precision.</p>
<p><b>Chimney strip for electrostatic charge dissipation from tires </b></p>
<p>"To reduce the rolling resistance of passenger car and truck tires, tire producers often replace carbon black by silica in their rubber compounds used in tread production. Silica is characterized by high electric resistance and acts as an isolator," says Dr. Gerard Nijman, Head of R&amp;D and Rubber Processing Technology at KraussMaffei Berstorff. "For this reason, a continuous conductive strip (chimney) on carbon black basis is required as additional component in the tread profile to eliminate the electrostatic charge from the tire. The chimney strip has a width of a few millimeters only and avoids electrostatic charging by the contact with the road surface."</p>
<p><b>Color measurement gives constant melt quality</b></p>
<p>The second development for in-line process monitoring is designed to detect instantly any metering errors in order to reduce production scrap and enhance line efficiency. This in-line measuring system is based on color measurement: light is projected into the melt, reflected and then detected by a high-resolution glass fiber sensor. Upon comparison with the previously defined setpoint, any deviation in terms of brightness or color is instantly recognized and indicated. It goes without saying that the color measuring system can be integrated into the overall line control.</p>
<p><b>High production reliability </b></p>
<p>The C-Check system checks the chimney conductivity in-line at variable production speeds. It is designed for non-contact measurement of the electric conductivity between the outside and inside of the tread. The electrode with flexible position charges the strip that is placed on an earthed conveying system. The fully functional chimney strip eliminates the electrostatic charge via an additional grounded electrode. If the electric resistance exceeds the preset value, a signal is transmitted to the operator and recorded by the control system.</p>
<p>The measurement is performed in real time. It can be displayed on a local control panel and additionally transmitted via an appropriate interface. The exceptional functionality of the C-Check system is simply unique on the market.</p>
<p>Thanks to the non-contact monitoring principle, there are no restrictions as far as the use of marking systems is concerned. The system can also be integrated into existing lines.</p>

His key tasks will be to implement the "Compass" strategy and the coordinated development of the operational business. He will also be responsible for the US subsidiary KraussMaffei Corporation.   ["htmlcontent"] => string(8027) "<p>(Munich, February 7, 2019) From idea to series production-ready fiber composite solutions: At JEC World held from March 12 to 14 in Paris (Hall 6, booth R28), KraussMaffei is highlighting its leading system expertise in developing and implementing series production-ready processes for fiber-reinforced lightweight construction. The focus of the trade show appearance is on new processes and applications that are based on both thermoset and thermoplastic matrix materials. The FiberForm process, pultrusion and unidirectional (UD) tapes are front and center.</p>
<p>The KraussMaffei Group's three technologies, Injection Molding Machinery, Reaction Process Machinery and Extrusion Technology, make it the world's only provider that can cover all three technologies from a single source. "We give our customers advice independent of the process and accompany them along the entire journey, from idea to series production-ready fiber composite solutions. This expertise is what sets us apart, along with our experience and the worldwide references from serial producers. In doing so, we supply solutions along the entire process chain and work closely together with partners from the industry and research communities," states Nicolas Beyl, President of the Reaction Process Machinery Segment at KraussMaffei Group.</p>
<h3>Quantities of over 1 million per year</h3>
<p>How can this system philosophy be converted into series production-ready processes? KraussMaffei highlights the answer with technologies such as the FiberForm process. Intelligent automation solutions and heating technology optimized for the injection molding process</p>
<p>ensure cycle times from below 60 seconds. For the first time at JEC, a continuous-fiber-reinforced thermoplastic series-produced lightweight component with a unit quantity of over 1 million per year is being exhibited. It is manufactured by forming and back-injecting stable fiber-reinforced composites, known as organo sheets. The organo sheet, which is only 0.5 mm thick, ensures the required stiffness with a low dead weight and makes a major contribution to weight savings (up to 4 kg/vehicle). The injection molding process helps the dimensional compliance of the geometry and is responsible for the additional component functions.</p>
<p>An additional sample component from a research project with the Dresden University of Technology demonstrates the use of recycled materials such as recycled carbon fibers and remanufactured compounds. In another groundbreaking innovation, the injection molding production technology called foam molding was implemented on a complex geometry. This technology makes it possible to produce thermoplastic sandwich structures with fiber-reinforced cover layers in a one-shot process.</p>
<p>The third application, a successful combination of FiberForm and swivel plate technology for multi-component injection molding, is a center armrest for the automotive interior. It will be on display in the Planet Area Automotive at JEC. "This combination can be used to create completely new visual and haptic component features for thermoplastic composites in a single process. The TPE component gives the functional and visible parts of the center armrest an outstandingly soft and visually appealing surface," explains Dr. Mesut Cetin, Group Product Manager at KraussMaffei Automation. In turn, the use of the composite sheet increases the rigidity and strength of the component. This enables the reinforcement ribs and the component itself to be designed with thinner walls, cutting weight by approximately 20 percent and cutting costs by around 15 percent.</p>
<h3>New standards for pultrusion with iPul</h3>
<p>Another highlight at the KraussMaffei booth is the presentation of the iPul technology from KraussMaffei Reaction Process Machinery. With the system solution launched on the market in 2017, the company has set new standards in pultrusion, a continuous process for fiber-reinforced profiles and round bars. The iPul system faster production speed compared to usual open bath processes.</p>
<p>"Our iPul system is exactly what the times demand. The new technology is attracting massive interest in the construction industry, for example for window profiles or rebar in concrete, or in wind power. In this field, we recently got a series order for a large project in Russia," confirms Philipp Zimmermann, Head of the Composites/Surfaces Business Unit at KraussMaffei. However, the automotive industry offers a great deal of potential, as does the energy and power supply sector. "In this field, we've launched two forward-looking development projects with Tier1 suppliers and the Fraunhofer IGCV. Here, pultrusion's true strength is on display: cost-effective production of fiber composite profiles with a low barrier to entry in terms of investment in systems and tooling. This makes lightweight construction as attractive as can be," states Zimmermann confidently.</p>
<p>The new iPul series is KraussMaffei's first bold foray into the field of complete turnkey systems where the systems, process and mold technology are from a single source. The series features central control of important process parameters such as the output capacity and draw-off speed. A further benefit of iPul is the great flexibility and precision of the systems. The injection box and metering technology with a newly developed mixing head make it possible to process completely different resins, including even polyurethane systems.</p>
<h3>First-class surfaces for large components</h3>
<p>The long-fiber injection process is KraussMaffei's established series system solution for fiber-reinforced lightweight construction. "The long-fiber injection process is ideal for large-format, complex and simultaneously thin-walled parts. Typical end applications include finishers for trucks, commercial vehicles and agricultural machines. Here, we continue to see incredible potential in the market, particularly in China and the US," says Zimmermann. The high degree of automation ensures short cycle times. The high fiber volume content of up to 50 percent guarantees high component stability and low weight at the same time. LFI components feature high temperature stability and excellent impact strength and have surfaces that can be used directly off-mold. At JEC, KraussMaffei is presenting a series component for a tractor side cover.</p>
<h3>Clever combination of UD tapes and FiberForm</h3>
<p>Extrusion specialists KraussMaffei Berstorff have raised their game even further in the FiberForm process with UD tapes. UD tapes feature unidirectional reinforcement fibers made of materials such as glass or carbon that are embedded in a thermoplastic matrix. "UD tapes are the ideal basis for organo sheets for the FiberForm process. We can't wait to show customers our rock-solid system expertise at JEC. We're taking our expertise from extrusion and thermoplastic lightweight construction and bundling it with injection molding technology to develop new and ingenious solutions in lightweight construction," states Hilmar Heithorst, Product Manager at KraussMaffei Berstorff.</p>
<p>Another important application for UD tapes is in thermoplastic composite pipes (TCP). A TCP system wraps UD tapes around plastic pipes and then melts the layers. This composite material and the orientation of the longitudinal fibers gives them incredible pressure resistance and makes them exceptionally well suited for the requirements of the oil and gas industry.</p>
<p>In developing the UD tape technologies, KraussMaffei is working hand-in-hand with the Fraunhofer Pilot Plant Center for Polymer Synthesis and Processing (PAZ) in Schkopau, Germany. Since 2017, the Center has had a new UD tape system, the world's largest melt-impregnation plant. The UD tape system achieves an impressive manufacturing speed of up to 20 meters per minute at processing temperatures up to 350°C</p>

The listing occurred through the transfer of ChemChina's stake in KraussMaffei to ChemChina's majority owned subsidiary THY (Qingdao Tianhua Institute of Chemistry Engineering), which is listed on the Shanghai stock exchange. In addition, THY has taken over ChemChina's production site in Sanming, China. New injection molding machines for the Chinese market will be manufactured at this site in the future. Dr. Frank Stieler and Dr. Harald Nippel, CEO and CFO of KraussMaffei, will lead the new integrated mechanical engineering company. The combined business will operate under the brand KraussMaffei. KraussMaffei generates more than 80 percent of the approximately 1.5 bn Euro revenue of the total entity. "We are very happy – something big is being created! We now have the opportunity to drive our growth even faster and better. The listing provides us with access to the Chinese capital market. This step will significantly strengthen us in China as well as globally," said Dr. Frank Stieler, CEO of KraussMaffei. <h3>KraussMaffei is seeking to accelerate growth</h3>
<p>KraussMaffei is a world leading supplier of machinery and systems for producing and processing plastics and rubber. The access to the Chinese capital market enables KraussMaffei to further accelerate its growth. The access to new financial resources is to contribute to the strategy "Compass". "We are expanding our product portfolio with new machinery series for volume markets and are broadening our digital services business. We are rapidly advancing local business models, especially in China," explains Stieler. With the strategy "Compass", KraussMaffei is focusing on expanding its business models, especially in the area of digital services. In July 2018, the company launched the new Digital Service Solutions business unit for this purpose.</p>
<p>KraussMaffei intends to significantly expand its presence in China. KraussMaffei will take on the operational responsibility for the integrated production site in Sanming, China. The site will produce newly developed injection molding machinery for the local Chinese market for KraussMaffei. Due to the rising demand for such products with high quality standards, KraussMaffei is expecting an annual sales growth of over 20 percent (CAGR) in China in the coming years.</p>
<p>The existing business of THY will be continued. THY is a leading design institute and specialty engineering company for components required in chemical plant construction.</p>
<h3>Employee representatives and IG Metall welcome the opportunities of capital market access in China</h3>
<p>KraussMaffei will continue to lead its business from the company headquarters in Munich, Germany. The German codetermination rights, the legal status of the KraussMaffei Group GmbH as well as employee and union agreements remain unchanged. The rights to technologies also remain bundled in Germany. The employee representatives and IG Metall welcome this step to the capital market. "We are convinced of the growth opportunities offered by the access to the Chinese capital market. The transaction is a positive development for KraussMaffei and offers opportunities to secure and create jobs also in Germany," says Susanne Meyer, Deputy Chairwomen of the works council of KraussMaffei. <h3>ChemChina remains majority shareholder of THY</h3>

ChemChina's shares in THY are subject to a holding period of three years.</p>

This is why Hannover-based KraussMaffei Berstorff GmbH offers two highly innovative solutions for all twin-screw extruders of the new ZE BluePower generation. This enables perfect integration of advanced compounding equipment with industry 4.0 technologies.</p>
<h3>Process-data acquisition provides full control at all times</h3>
<p>In order to meet the ever increasing demand for data acquisition and analysis, KraussMaffei Berstorff has developed two new systems, which are now available as options for ZE BluePower extruders. The first of these developments is designed to synchronously collect all production data of a compounding line. It is composed of perfectly tuned hardware and software components for acquisition, recording, evaluation and further processing of all process and measured values. Data analysis provides a sound basis for process optimization, in particular when it comes to process modifications or planned quality improvements.</p>
<p>Thanks to its modular design and easy configuration, the system can be adapted to a wide range of different applications, scaled in size and is suited for interface-independent operation. All interfaces can be integrated into an overall system that collects and visualizes the desired process data. Pressure, temperature, speed and volume flow values of all upstream and downstream components – e.g. metering systems, melt filters, melt pumps and pelletizing systems – as well as the extruder parameters are combined in a single system.</p>
<h3>Color measurement gives constant melt quality</h3>
<p>The second development for in-line process monitoring is designed to detect instantly any metering errors in order to reduce production scrap and enhance line efficiency. This in-line measuring system is based on color measurement: light is projected into the melt, reflected and then detected by a high-resolution glass fiber sensor. Upon comparison with the previously defined setpoint, any deviation in terms of brightness or color is instantly recognized and indicated. It goes without saying that the color measuring system can be integrated into the overall line control.</p>
<h3>Highly profitable compounding extruder</h3>
<p>The ZE BluePower twin-screw extruder series is characterized by high energy efficiency, uncompromising safety at work, simple use and low maintenance efforts. It perfectly meets the ever increasing requirements of compound processors in terms of flexibility and cost effectiveness. Thanks to the unique interaction between the 1.65 OD/ID diameter ratio and the specific torque of up to 16 Nm, volume- and throughput-limited formulations can be compounded on a single machine. The special highlights of the ZE BluePower extruders are oval liners, improved side feeders and degassing units as well as the optional energy management tool. The 4D and 6D barrel sections that can be combined with the extensive range of modular screw elements to create bespoke machinery configurations for any application are simply unique in the market.</p>"

In this environment, KraussMaffei Berstorff can assert its strong market position with its sophisticated technologies and customer-specific plants, and further strengthen it with many projects in pipe and profile extrusion.</p>
<h3>Birusa: Automated solution for coextruded polystyrene sheets</h3>
<p>Birusa, one of the leading Russian manufacturers of refrigerators, is modernizing its production in Krasnoyarsk. To achieve this, the company has ordered a complete system for the production of coextruded polystyrene sheets from KraussMaffei Berstorff. The highlight of this 1000 mm sheet system is the automatic thickness adjustment of the sheets by press of a button during production. "This system gives us enormous advantages, such as high production flexibility, reduction of changeover times and labor costs and reduction of the amount of waste," Maxim Komendantov, Head of Process Engineering at Birusa, explains proudly. "In light of harsh market conditions and in order to improve our competitiveness, we decided in favor of KraussMaffei Berstorff because we are sure to obtain the most efficient solution for modernization in this way," adds Alexander Schurinov, Technical Manager at Birusa.</p>
<h3>Sibur: PO and PP pipe production with lab system</h3>
<p>Sibur, one of the largest raw material manufacturers in Russia, has ordered from KraussMaffei Berstorff a lab system for the production of premium quality PO pipes in its Polyolefin Application Development Center. The line is primarily intended for studying and further developing the process behavior of PO and PP formulations as well as the properties of the end products—within the plants owned by Sibur. Sibur produces single-layer HDPE, PP-R and PP-B pipes in the diameter range from 32 to 110 mm using the KME 38-30 B/R single-screw extruder and the KM RKW 32-110 tube die. The commissioning in the Polyolefin Application Development Center in Skolkovo is planned for early 2019.</p>
<h3>Technonikol: Coextrusion line for drainage systems in the new plant</h3>
<p>Technonikol, one of the leading manufacturers of premium quality construction materials, is expanding its product line using KraussMaffei Berstorff systems due to the good reputation earned by KraussMaffei for systems of proven value and high quality. "On a complete high-performance coextrusion line, two different profile types are manufactured, a rainwater pipe and a gutter strip," explains Vadim Schwarz, Regional Sales Manager for Russia at KraussMaffei Berstorff. "The twin-screw extruders from KraussMaffei Berstorff guarantee optimum melt quality for our application and thus a premium finished product," seconds Andrey Sinyakov, Project Manager of Technonikol. "In addition, the attractive price/performance ratio was a crucial point in the decision," concludes Sinyakov. The production start of the system is planned for spring 2019.</p>
<h3>Nordpipe: Follow-up order for modernizing the PO pipe production</h3>

The multi-layered PE 100 RC pipes are highly resistant to the development of cracks, which increases their service life—even under difficult circumstances.</p>"

Its existing claim to build the best machinery for plastics processing is now being supplemented with a wide variety of digital offers in the areas of service, new business models and products. Installing its new "Digital Service Solutions" (DSS) business unit, the KraussMaffei Group is pushing ahead with the digitalization of the company with great impact.</p>
<h3>Three strong pillars</h3>
<p>"We firmly believe that the combination of mechanical excellence and service excellence will make the difference in our market in the future. Our worldwide service will be the very reason why customers decide in favor of KraussMaffei. Our goal is to create measurable added value for our customers," explains Nadine Despineux, who has been heading the new DSS business area since July of this year. "Customer Care", "Customer Value" and "Digital Solutions" make up the three strong pillars of DSS which will also be on display at Fakuma.</p>
<h3>Global customer service – The new e-service platform</h3>
<p>Customer Care includes the present conventional service as well as future service, which must be seamless both chronologically and in terms of content: 360°, 365 days a year. The best example is the e-service platform presented in Friedrichshafen, which already offers a wide variety of service functions to our customers today. Among these are access to machine-specific documents, the 3D spare parts finder with direct purchase order trigger or the integrated ticket system. In short, the customer benefits from an additional safeguard of production efficiency. This service can be accessed at any time, from any location.</p>
<p>The new e-service platform was first presented as a test version at the K 2016 trade show. "Since then, we have been specifically gathering customer feedback. We have developed the desired new features quickly and with agility, and then we have implemented them so that already last year we could move on to field testing and win our first customers for the platform," says Despineux. For fast implementation, the initial focus has been on what is called the "speedboat variant" for the Netstal products. Now, the platform is to be expanded to cover all products of the KraussMaffei Group—following the motto of "Think big—act small &amp; fast."</p>
<h3>New Rent-it and Gindumac business models</h3>
<p>Customer Value includes new business models such as "Rent it – don't buy it," introduced in 2017, and the Gindumac platform for used machinery, in which KraussMaffei holds a stake. They provide the answer to one of the most pressing challenges of plastic processors. The purchase of a machine is an expensive investment especially for small and mid-size injection molding companies (and the long service life of the KraussMaffei machine is rather a competitive disadvantage here). On the other hand, companies that rent flexible production capacity tie up only a little capital and always stay at the technological forefront. The first wave of customers has already deliberately decided in favor of this model.</p>
<p>However, presenting such a model in a way as commercially attractive as KraussMaffei does it is possible only if the lessor is capable of taking back a large number of used machines after the lease expires. This is why KraussMaffei decided earlier this year to invest in Gindumac, a startup company. The startup operates a globally oriented Internet platform for used machinery. The platform connects all quotations and interested parties with each other globally. The advantages of this business model, in turn, have a positive effect on the calculation of leasing rates.</p>
<h3>AnalytiX – The injection molding machine for your pocket</h3>
<p>Under the keyword of Digital Customer Solutions, APC Plus can be viewed at Fakuma as well as the DataXplorer and AnalytiX tools and interfaces. DataXplorer is the name of an analytical tool for recording, storing and evaluating up to 500 signals at a resolution of 5 ms. These can be standard signals of the machine or special signals such as the mold cavity pressure. This provides a fascinating view, rich in detail, of systems and processes that can be used for improving production efficiency or for Condition Monitoring.</p>
<p>AnalytiX is an evaluation tool for the customer to keep its machines in view, anytime and anywhere, and benefit from automated evaluations of processes and machine statuses. Using intelligent key figures for stability and productivity, the user can identify negative trends or performance deviations of individual machines at one glance. "Our customers often do not wish for 'Big Data' but rather for a solution allowing them to monitor their injection molding machine in production using simple key figures while having breakfast—an injection molding machine for their pocket, so to speak. And we are offering this in the form of AnalytiX," explains Despineux. Like the e-service platform, AnalytiX was developed as a "speedboat" for the Netstal products and it is now being consistently and comprehensively extended to cover all KraussMaffei products.</p>
<h3>New location for DSS in Munich's Neuaubing district</h3>
<p>The new Digital Service Solutions business unit will move to a new location in Munich's Neuaubing district in February 2019. There, currently space is being created for up to 50 employees in a creative environment in which agile working methods will be the order of the day. "Not only is this highly attractive for recruiting new talent in the areas of business architects, product owners or data analysts, but it also provides the new business unit with a high impact capability in the market," says Despineux.</p>"

In addition to classic plastics machinery construction this new strategy aims at intensifying and accelerating the development of digital services and products, as well as new business models. To this end, the new Digital Service Solutions business unit was established in July, and is expected to make a substantial contribution to the Group's sales in the future. The new strategy is initially designed for a period of five years until 2023.</p>
<p>The KraussMaffei Group is thus continuing its growth course. The share of digital services and products, as well as new services such as the "Rent It" machine rental model, will be steadily increased in the coming years. For this purpose the new business unit Digital Service Solutions was established in July. "We are positioning KraussMaffei as a company that is consistently focusing on customer needs in the age of digitization. In the coming years, we will significantly expand our business model and add digital excellence to our high level of mechanical expertise. This means that in future we will not only sell our customers high-quality machines as usual, but also create added value around the machine. We want to provide our customers with excellent service around the globe and around the clock – and make them attractive offers," explains Dr. Frank Stieler, CEO of the KraussMaffei Group.</p>
<h3>Positive business development in 2018</h3>
<p>A positive development is anticipated for the current financial year. In the first three quarters, incoming orders amounted to 1.05 billion euros. This corresponds to an increase of 2.5 percent compared with the same period in the previous year. Sales amounted to 973 million euros. This corresponds to an increase in sales of 15 million euros or 1.6 percent.</p>
<p>The number of employees has also increased significantly. Today, the Group employs almost 5,500 people (including apprentices) – a record number. Since the end of 2016 alone, 618 new jobs have been created worldwide. This means a 13 percent increase in the number of employees within just under two years. "I am particularly pleased that we are currently qualifying 310 apprentices for their future professional careers - more than ever before," says Dr. Stieler.</p>
<h3>Listing procedure on the Shanghai Stock Exchange nearing completion</h3>
<p>The planned listing on the Shanghai Stock Exchange is due to be approved this year. The Chinese authorities are currently reviewing the application from KraussMaffei's parent company China National Chemical Corporation. CEO Stieler: "The listing process is going according to plan. We expect the China Securities Regulatory Commission to give the green light in the coming weeks."</p>"

  ["htmlcontent"] => string(3106) "<p>(Hannover, 21 June 2018) Thanks to the installation of the new compounding line from Hannover-based KraussMaffei Berstorff, Tecnaro GmbH succeeds in doubling its biocompound production capacity in the Ilsfeld-Auenstein facilities. The bioplastics specialist is thus well prepared for the ever increasing demand for tailored alternative plastics compounds and in a position to ensure cost-effective large-volume production.</p>
<p>Tecnaro specializes in technologies for industrial use of renewable raw materials in plastics processing. Since its foundation in 1998, the company has been committed to the production of biocompounds. Today, Tecnaro employs 30 staff members and supplies its products not only to customers around the globe, but to almost all branches of industry. While lignin-based compounds referred to as Arboform are used for loudspeakers, musical instruments, toys, design objects or urns, for instance, the optionally bio-degradable raw materials of the Arboblend series are applied for packagings, office supplies, household items, film and sheets as well as for other semi-finished products, to name but a few examples. There is also a great demand for the third Tecnaro product line based on filled compounds made from renewable raw materials suited for the production of household items, packagings, technical profiles and chairs.</p>
<p>Tecnaro produces these biocompounds on twin-screw extruders. "We started with second-hand machines, one of which was originally delivered by KraussMaffei Berstorff. This is one of the reasons why we opted again for a compounding line from Hannover," says Jürgen Pfitzer, Chief Executive Officer of Tecnaro GmbH. The recently installed new line is a ZE Basic 62 twin-screw extruder for a maximum output rate of 800 kg/h. This extruder will enable the compounding company to double its production capacity per year. "The possible scale-up of our formulations for the production of larger quantities of specific compounds on the new extruder is of decisive importance to us," adds Jürgen Pfitzer who is deeply convinced that – in about 100 years’ time – there will be hardly any fossil-based plastics and that the demand for biocompounds will therefore continue to constantly increase in the future. </p>
<h3>Specifically designed for standard applications</h3>
<p>The twin-screw extruders of the ZE Basic series are extremely versatile and suitable for about 80 % of all plasticizing, filling and reinforcing applications without requiring any major equipment modification. This is why the ZE Basic is the ideal solution for the wide Tecnaro product portfolio. The series comprises a total of four extruder sizes with diameters ranging between 42 and 77 mm and output rates of up to 3 metric tons/hour. Featuring an OD/ID diameter ratio of 1.55 and a 10.5 Nm/cm specific torque factor, the ZE Basic extruders are technically sophisticated systems. Just like the other KraussMaffei Berstorff twin-screw extruders, this series can be tailored to specific requirements in terms of processing section configuration and screw geometry.</p>"

More than 1,800 visitors came to the Competence Forum, among them a considerable number from abroad.</p>
<h3 class="Lead" align="left">An injection molding machine for each decade</h3>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">The visitors were impressed by a total of 25 machine presentations. In Injection Molding Machinery alone, there were 18 exhibits (about one machine per decade) that presented live applications within the clamping force range from 25 to 1600 t. Among these were numerous innovations such as the new PX 25 and PX 320, with which KraussMaffei is expanding its all-electric series by adding two clamping force sizes, one lower and one higher. The new PX 25 impressed visitors with its micro-injection molding of liquid silicone (LSR). A radial sealing ring was produced with an intricate undercut and a weight of only 0.15 grams. The new "big one" of the PX series, with a clamping force of 3,200 kN, was displayed together with the IMD SI DUO film feed, made by our partners at Leonhard Kurz. This enables the world's first independent positioning of two single-image designs, which not only increase output using multi-cavity molds, but also enhance production flexibility.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">Additional highlights of Injection Molding Machinery at the Competence Forum were the GX 650 with the new Speed Option, thermoplastic lightweight construction with Fiber-Form technology, ColorForm applications in piano black and new technologies for fiber glass direct feed or for direct compounding.</p>
<h3 class="Flieundblock" align="left">Reaction Process Machinery's own anniversary</h3>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">KraussMaffei's Reaction Process Machinery division not only celebrated the company's 180th anniversary at the Competence Forum, but also an anniversary of its own. Exactly 50 years ago, a special clamping unit with two rotation axes for processing polyurethane was brought onto the market for the first time. KraussMaffei has been steadfast in shaping and driving the development of Reaction Process Machinery forward globally. The visitors were able to see the highlights of the last 50 years on a timeline. The exhibit was accompanied by numerous live applications. The biggest visitor magnets included the new iPul pultrusion system, which produced the hollow chamber profile based on glass fibers and a polyurethane matrix and the PUR foaming system with the new multi-color mixing head. And this created foamed knee cushions in various colors. The visitors witnessed fiber-reinforced lightweight construction ready for large-scale production on the fully automated wetmolding system.</p>
<h3 class="Flieundblock" align="left">Live demonstration of groundbreaking technologies in extrusion technology</h3>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">Extrusion technology showed itself to be a real trendsetter using its live systems from the pipe and profile manufacturing sector. The visitors were thoroughly impressed by the TCP pilot line (Thermoplastic Composite Pipes). It impressively demonstrated the precise wrapping of a base pipe with fiberglass tapes for high-pressure applications in the oil and gas industry. In addition, the newly developed three-layer pipe head produced a three-layer pipe with a functional inner layer made from PA 12. Another visitor magnet was the profile extrusion line, which created a two-color lamp housing out of polycarbonate using the coextrusion process.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">Additional exhibits, such as the direct extrusion system or the recycling model, once again proved the innovative ability of extrusion technology.</p>
<h3 class="Flieundblock" align="left">Experiencing Plastics 4.0 live</h3>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">At numerous exhibits, the KraussMaffei Group presented its entire Plastics 4.0 product line and made the possibilities and advantages of Industry 4.0 in plastics processing come alive for the visitors. The presentation of the new MES system, MaXecution, and the live application of the DataXplorer on the GX 650 FiberForm system were highlights. With its microscopic view, it records up to 500 signals on the machine, including the organic sheet heat-up time. All injection molding machines were equipped with the intelligent APC plus (Adaptive Process Control) machine function, which provides extreme weight consistency of parts and the highest process reliability.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">In order to bring even more effectiveness into digital solutions and services, the KraussMaffei Group is starting the Digital Service Solutions business unit on July 1. It will deal with service and aftermarket and link classic and digital activities.</p>

Visitors can observe the manufacture of light covers made from polycarbonate on a profile line. In addition, a sheeting line will be displayed. The EdelweissCompounding system provides energy-efficient plastics recycling and high product quality.</p>
<h3>Light covers in the coextrusion process</h3>
<p>"Our customers can witness live how a lamp housing is made from polycarbonate at the coextrusion profile line," explains Matthias Sieverding, President of Extrusion Technology at the KraussMaffei Group. A combination of the single-screw extruder KME 60-30 D/P and KME 45-30 D/P produces a light cover that resembles the housing of fluorescent tubes. However, the profile is made of two sections; a colored floor and a translucent area for distributing light. In the line along with the die, a blade cutting unit for swarf-free cutting and a deposit tray as the upstream station for robot technology are integrated. This is displayed in an animation at the end of the line, along with the profile removal by a robot, visual inspection and forwarding to packaging. Production is completely integrated into the C6 control system. Only the LED elements and the end pieces, manufactured with KraussMaffei injection molding systems, have to be attached in a separate working step.<br />The live system is designed for an output of 35 kg/h with a speed of 1.5 m/min.</p>
<h3>System solution for cost-effective sheet extrusion</h3>
<p>"A completely built up sheet system shows our visitors the exemplary cost-effective and flexible manufacturing of PVC sheets," explains Sieverding. A wide variety of coextruded products can be created with cost-effective materials using the total system concept and utilized in the construction industry, container construction and even in advertising. The main extruder KMD 133-32/PL produces the foamed intermediate layer with an output of up to 1100 kg/h, while the coextruder KMD 75-26/PL produces the solid outer layer with an output of up to 240 kg/h. The flexible design allows the processor to modify a monoextrusion in just a few easy steps. "The twin-screw extruder KMD 164-32/PL features a very high output of up to 1400 kg/h and provides another exhibit of our comprehensive expertise in sheet extrusion," Sieverding concludes.</p>
<h3>Plastics recycling and compounding in a single step</h3>
<p>EdelweissCompounding system offers obvious advantages regarding energy efficiency as well as a quality finished product. In this concept, a first extruder processes the recyclate before a second extruder compounds it. By integrating the process into a tandem system, repeat heating of input materials is not necessary. As a result, this saves energy, and the reduced portion of shear energy during plasticizing benefits the material quality. The system can be seen at the Competence Forum as a display model recreated true-to-detail and through an augmented reality presentation for more detailed information.</p>"

As part of the Competence Forum on KraussMaffei's 180th anniversary, two technological highlights from pipe extrusion are front and center. With the TCP (Thermoplastic Composite Pipes) pilot line, KraussMaffei Berstorff is taking new strides in fiber composite technology and thus supports pre-qualifying customer-specific sample pipes meeting the pressure standards of the oil and gas industry. In addition, the newly developed tube die features a three-layer pipe with a functional inner layer made of PA 12. This is especially suited for transporting corrosive and abrasive media.</p>
<h3 class="zwischenheadline">One-of-a-kind service for pre-qualifying TCP sample pipes</h3>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">"With our pilot line, we support our customers with their standards regarding the design of fiber-reinforced pipes from a process technology standpoint," says Matt Sieverding, President of Extrusion Technology at the KraussMaffei Group. "In the pre-qualification of new developments, we offer a service that is one-of-a-kind in the world. This is a real benefit to our customers, as lengthy and time-consuming process steps are drastically shortened," says Sieverding. The base pipe can be produced on our in-house lines for manufacturing pipes, purchased on the market or provided by the customer. The tapes are then wrapped on the TCP pilot line. A reconfiguration of the line allows for subsequent sheathing with a protective layer.</p>
<h3 class="zwischenheadline">Maximum flexibility thanks to a three-level process</h3>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">"For manufacturing TCP pipes, we relied on a three-level process in our system concept. For the customer, this process ensures maximum flexibility in production. And this is combined with a minimum risk in the production process," says Sieverding. At the second stage of the process, the surface of the PE pipe on the winding system is heated with infrared. The tape is then attached at two successive winding stations. An infrared oven for each layer ensures the fusion of the inner pipe with the reinforcing layers, thus ensuring complete bonding. A corresponding guiding device ensures exact positioning and prevents potential tape overlapping. "The fiber-reinforced pipes are excellently suited for the challenging safety requirements and high pressure loads in the oil and gas industry," Sieverding says. In onshore use, the working pressure attains 150 bar at times. In offshore use, the pipe can be required to withstand a pressure stability of more than 500 bar.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">The system for live demonstration at the Competence Forum is designed for a pipe interior diameter range of 50.8 to 152.4 mm (2 to 6 inches) and a maximum permissible operating pressure up to 100 bar (1500 psi). It is currently intended for the use of PE pipes coated with glass-fiber reinforced PE tape. On the long run, however, multi-layer pipes, other fibers and engineering polymers will also be tested.</p>
<h3 class="zwischenheadline">Engineering polymers as a functional inner layer</h3>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">"As a complement to the composite pipes, we are taking groundbreaking steps in pipe extrusion by processing engineering polymers," Sieverding says. Integrated into a complete production line, the KM-3L RKW 250 F³ tube die produces a three-layer PE pipe with a functional inner layer made from polyamide (PA 12). "Our development team was successful in combining the various processing parameters of raw materials such as temperature or shrinkage in this innovative tube die design," says Sieverding happily. The combination of the materials was immediately obvious as PA is substantially more expensive than PE but offers very high chemical and abrasion resistance. For complete bonding, an additional bonding layer is required. Due to their high impact strength and abrasion resistance, pipes manufactured in this way are particularly well suited to corrosive and abrasive media such as those frequently used in the oil, gas and chemical industries.</p>
<p>The live system with the KME 75-36 B/R, KME 45-36 B/R and KME 30-25 D/C single-screw extruders is designed for the dimensional range of 50 to 282 mm and an output of 800 kg/h for PE, 30 kg/h for the bonding agent and 180 kg/h for the functional layer.</p>"

At any time, the processor has direct access to individual units of a line or the entire system and thus has an ideal production and optimization tool.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">Helpful functions for this purpose include the wireless integration of machines into the company network, the X-Manager for Windows-based monitoring and the messenger system for automated notification for machine alarms. "We are currently collaborating intensively with our competitors on the standardized Euromap 84 interface, which will offer customers a much broader range of options for networking production and acquiring data from its machines for transfer to higher-level systems," says Sieverding. Plans call for the definition to be passed in 2018 and implemented in 2019.</p>

<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">Pipeline Plastics, one of the leading manufacturers of high end pipe systems for industrial and municipal water as well as for oil and gas systems up to 40, closed the deal of complete pipe extrusion lines for HDPE smooth wall pressure pipes with KraussMaffei Berstorff at the NPE show in Orlando. The deal is part of a larger expansion plan that will include additional equipment at the Levelland location and a new facility to be located in the South Eastern US. Mr. Fisher, founder and CEO of Pipeline Plastics, said "We have a long history of working with KraussMaffei Berstorff and have had great results with their extrusion equipment. Our Decatur (Texas) facility is equipped with KraussMaffei Berstorff extrusion lines which exceeded our expectations in performance and reliability. We expect to have our Levelland expansion operational by the end of the fourth quarter of this year, and our South Dakota expansion completed in the beginning 2019". The new South East Coast facility is planned to be up and running in the third quarter of 2019.</p>"
